The future is silver ...

X-Men (2000) Distributed by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment
 ... the DVD
Eyes wide ..

Opens in Poland at a Jewish concentration camp in 1944, a young boy is parted from his parents and demonstrates some strange metal bending powers.

Splitting headache ..

Flash forward to 'the not too distant future' with an ill-fated kiss, next to Washington where Dr Jean Grey ( Janssen ) is addressing the Senators about the subject of mutants. Their future is opposed by Senator Kelly ( Bruce Davison ). Among the audience is Professor Charles Xavier ( Patrick Star Trek: TNG Stewart ) who runs a school of outcasts with special skills. Helping to teach the young & gifted is Storm ( Berry ).

Meanwhile the baddie of the piece is Magneto ( Ian Lord Of The Rings McKellen ) who believes that humans & mutants can never co-exist, so he launches his plan against the world. ... one for all Enter Xavier's X-Men to save the day with a climatic ending at New York's Statue Of Liberty.

Stylish silver sets enhance the futuristic look with excellent special effects but for me at times the narrative was rather slow. Good theme music by Michael Licence To Kill Kamen. The DVD comes with the usual behind the scenes, interviews, trailers etc.

We await the sequel hopefully to develop the characters.
