Another caper ...

Compared to the McQueen/Dunaway's 60's original, this updated caper works with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo, where the earlier Entrapment failed, due to the on-screen chemistry of the two stars. Bored billionaire Crown (Brosnan) steals a priceless painting and insurance investigator Banning (Russo) tries to prove he's the thief. This entertaining & enjoyable action thriller directed by John Die Hard McTiernan moves along at a nice pace, not too long and not too short.
Linked to the original movie is a cameo by Faye Dunaway as a psychiatrist trying to get inside the mind of the playboy and also in the cast is Denis Leary, better known on these shores for his beer commercials & comedy routines, as a good cop stuck in the middle of the robbery investigation. Nice location shots of the island of Martinique to make you think about booking a holiday along with memories of Miss Russo enjoying the midday sun. There is a good music score from Bill FYEO Conti along with a better ending version of the classic Windmills of My Mind sung by Sting. Despite not seeing the movie since its release I was surprised how much I remembered which is a good sign of a good movie. The twists & turns will keep you amused to the very end. |
