Catching up with another old issue, brought online many months ago and finally got round to finishing this issue which has a cover showing an extract from the OHMSS poster. Inside the 48 page magazine you will first find a publicity photo of singer Lulu for her single of TMWTGG with the back inside publicity photo of B.J. Arnau for LALD. After the contents page Rye's editorial announces that "Pierce Brosnan's in the role of James Bond is well and truly over". The first item is a 4 page report about Bond set creator Ken Adam at The Design Museum with photos of him at work. Next is an eight page item called James Bond Girls Are Forever with some revealing colour photos of the 60s actresses from Ursula Andress in '62 ( given a 8/10 rating ) to Diana Rigg in '69 ( with "a rare avalanche 10/10" ). Followed by an item that compares Fleming's Scaramanga to the movie one. A rare 2 page LTK photo of a young Benico Del Toro with an array of guns called THE BIG SHOT. The back colour cover photo is of Timothy Dalton in scuba gear posing mode with a knife from the same film. The archive item looks at 5 actors who auditioned for OHMSS followed by 2 further photo pages with the winner George Lazenby including his audition fight when he "bloodied the bloke's nose." Another writer examines the first 4 Bonds and chooses scenes that has their "characteristic trait that is visible throughout the rest of their Bond career". Mmm some strange choices but it is the writer's opinion. This item like other pages has faded ( not the usual standard ) colour photos from the movies. The final item covered over 15 pages has Rye looking "at the history of James Bond Bubble Gum Cards in 1964" and his schoolboy quest for missing card 59 of the GF set. All the b&w cards are seen including card no.25 duplicated with similar photos of Shirley Eaton in black underwear. The set covers stills from the first 3 movies. A 2nd set is shown by Somportex again in b&w with movies & publicity photos but no captions. He mentions the gun photos taken from The Sunday Times supplement but strange that the Beretta gun is used twice ( 43 & 44 ). My only bubble gum collection started in '69 with the OHMSS set. While working in my parents' grocer shop - ended up purchasing the whole box from the wholesalers. Yes like Graham missing a card - 56 the final one of the Anglo ( now in ) colour picture story set ! Aah memories, come in card 56. So another one for my magazine archives. |
