CD 1: CD 2: |
Released in 2009, this 2CD presentation includes 36 tracks from the master's pen. Comes with a 8 page booklet with intro and track descriptions by writer Ian McCann. The music ( only - no singers ) is well performed by the City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra & The Ian Rich Orchestra. Where this differs from other cover CDs is that some of his film music have longer versions ( Suite ) devoted to them like The Lion In Winter & The Cotton Club. Worth an online purchase for a relaxing listen and reminder of Barry's musical diversity. |

Notes by chat host Jonathan Ross ( also tv presenter of BBC-1's Film 2009 ) who had Mr. Barry as a guest on his Last Resort Show on C4 many moons ago. This covers all Barry's great work & includes both his tv ( The Persuaders & 'Hit & Miss' - aka Juke Box Jury ) and award winning film scores ( Midnight Cowboy, Out of Africa & Dances with Wolves ) plus his Bond themes. The only vocals are provided by Matt Monroe for From Russia With Love & Born Free and Shirley Bassey for Goldfinger & Diamonds Are Forever. Great value and a must buy for Barry fans, especially if your old vinyl records are now worn out. |

If you've been lucky to visit Kenya for a holiday, this album will bring back some memories. Probably the departing sight of these CDs & cuddly lions at Mombassa Airport. While on a short safari trip I'll never forget the look on fellow tourists' faces when I suggested we all sing "Born Free as free as ... " - another Barry Classic. This is Oscar winning John Barry music and opens with the Main Title - "I had a farm in Africa" ( Meryl Streep where are you ? ) and ends with Al Jarreau's co-vocal of the love theme. The best use of the theme is for Flying Over Africa track. Recorded back in 1985 with Mr. Barry at his non Bond best ! |
