 Curly Tim ...

Curly spec Tim

Former 007 Timothy Dalton got caught by the press on a bad day on a visit to a LA off-licence. As you see The Sun's caption writer had fun with his appearance plus inserting a photo from his Bond days with words opening "Here's a a new snap .. that will leave shaken and stirred" and ending "The British actor has obviously gained a few pounds too - he must have been abusing his licence to fill" - ugh!
Nice to see that Tim shares the same taste in glasses and has Mourinho Moonshadow [unshaven] like me for when Chelsea play at week-ends. Hey it works for me we're top of the league.

Game on

 Don't believe the hype ...

Today saw the launch of another 007 game called GoldenEye: Rogue Agent, the creators took out a full page advert in The Sun with the catch-line of THEY CAN TAKE AWAY YOUR LICENCE TO KILL BUT NOT YOUR DESIRE.
The tv advert now being seen in the UK has a figure with lowered gun in hand walking off a boat and passing a silver Aston Martin DB5. He walks back and runs a key along the side of the parked car [ very educational ! ] and then blows up the ship. The usual game price of £39.99 is stated but my local Woolies is selling it at £34.99 and elsewhere in the paper it's a retail shop's deal of the week and selling at £32.99. The cover doesn't jump out at you and the back states Why save the world when you can rule it with a few of the seen baddies.
In The Sun's games section a b&w photo of a sad GF's Oddjob with a foreground right loading gun in hand and heading of Golden blunder. It's review includes "This misses more than it hits because the idea of playing as a baddie against other baddies simply doesn't work .. how much better it would be playing as 007 .. like in EA's last Bond belter EON .. Graphically it looks good enough".
Having been contacted by promotion companies both sides of the ocean, I was hoping to get my hands on an early copy of the game but alas no ( not even promotion material ) so my review will have to wait until the game drops into my price range.

 Mini Pierce ...
Cut to size
You don't expect Pierce Brosnan to be cut down to size but The Daily Mirror's entertainment pages 3am were more interested in tennis star Serena William's dress than the "Irish charmer" at the UK premiere of his new flick After The Sunset. They gave a right full length photo to the Wimbledon ace ( sorry my scanner wasn't long enough ! ) and a smaller suited photo of the Bond star ( alas my scanner ommits both footwear ). From the title Serena's bust shot you can see what is attracting the attention - now I wonder why ?

  2. Sport quiz programme A Question Of Sport ( BBC-1, Fri ) had a Bond theme opening picture round. Each team picks a number to reveal a picture or pictures and this time relating to the world of 007 e.g. footballers called Aston and Martin, a boxer called Thunder and footballer called Ball, also picture of Harold Sakata in his weight-lifting days before he became GF's Oddjob and a cricket radio commentator called .. Blofeld ( 05/11 ).

  3. Next Holiday ?
  4. The Sun's travel section has a section called Stay With The Stars and features Bond star Pierce Brosnan due to the release of his movie After The Sunset which "was shot almost entirely on location at the mega Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas." As Pierce recently said on a chat show "It was a nice gig". Oh hats off to the caption writer ( 06/11 )
  5. The Sun's motoring section has a photo of a "new DBR 9 .. a racing car specially adapted as a road car - for only 20 lucky customers with £450,000 .. to own one of the greatest Aston ever, with a top speed of 200mph and 0-100mph in 6.5 seconds. If you live in France it will be seen "racing in the Le Mans 24-hour race." ( 12/11 )
  6. Next Race ?
    Practice makes ..
  7. The Daily Mail's Ephraim Hardcastle asks if "the Liberal Democrats [are] getting above themselves ? .. leader Charles Kennedy was 'extremely privileged' to be seated next to one of their 'most celebrated supporters' at the annual ball - [Bond] actress Honor Blackman [smiling b&w photo] .. a party spokesman: 'Mr Kennedy alluded to her famous quote that she considered him sexier than Sean Connery.' How could you Pussy ?" I say a quick visit to her optician will correct the problem ( 18/11 ).
  8. The Daily Mirror has a small b&w photo of gun posing Roger Moore not as 007 but during his tv Saint days. The small item titled A Saintly revamp tells of his former "Volvo P1800S known as the White Steed" car "being restored to glory. .. After changing hands several times, the car is being restored for an American Saint fan .. in Suffolk [England]. .. Tony [Davey, specialist mechanic] said "At the end of the series they had a pair. This is one. It has a special low seat as Roger Moore was pretty tall." Despite just 113,000 miles on the clock, it needs "extensive work"" ( 25/11 ).
  9. There's an old saying "Strike while the iron's hot !", so model Sophie Anderton who is currently in the jungle on tv's I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! appears on Page 3 of The Sun in 3 famous movie poses including DN's Ursula Andress. On the right side ( not seen ) she re-creates Bo Derek's 10 beach run and least effective is her Raquel Welsh One Million .. pose.
Seeing her every day in your home for two weeks may be appealing for hot-blooded men but sorry she loses her 'sex appeal' when you see her puffing on a cigarette ( 26/11 ).
  10. Next Girl ?
  11. UK's Channel 4 ran 2 programmes over the week-end called The Ultimate Film presented by John R/Q Cleese. The Sun has a small item titled 35m Brits Gone to see epic as "The British Film Institute created the all-time top 100 from ticket sales since talkies began. One third of the top 100 were British. And six of the top 10 were made before 1950." No surprise that the epic Gone With The Wind was "Britain's most-seen movie" with Thunderball the only Bond movie in the top 20 with 15.6m 'bums on seats' as critic Barry Norman once called viewings ( 29/12 ).

And finally ...
Having finished the EON video game ( see review & AUF ) and finally finished Nightfire's final mission which took me ages with nightmares of flying astronauts but I've finally killed the baddie Drake. Hurray !
Note to EA Games with GoldenEye it's going to be retro villains, how about a game with retro 007s, bring back Dalton in say Licence To Live, Lazenby in For Services Rendered, Moore with raising eyebrow in Moneypenny Or Die and Connery in Never Say Never To Death or what about all five in one game. Imagine the marketing "NOT ONE BOND, NOT TWO BUT ALL FIVE 007S !". Hey EA don't forget the cheque !
