Q In Demand
Shock ! Horror ! MI5 are after their own gadgets master like our Q who is employed by MI6. Rather than make a 'Roman' bid, "the security service is advertising for a new chief scientific adviser". The Sun has a heading of JOB? JOIN THE Q - MI5 to hire Bond-style gadgets guru with a lab photo from GE with another of actor Desmond Llewelyn. "The MI5 website promises a competitive salary to the right candidate with world-class scientific expertise and credibility. The new part-time post, for two or three days a week .. is expected to use their skills to foil terror operations around the world." So anyone with O or A level Physics or Chemistry shouldn't bother applying with the closing date of 24 April ( 18/04 ).
Gem of an April ....
She's a busy girl our Gemma Arterton after making QOS, here are some of her appearances in The Sun ..
- Appears on the entertainment pages in a short white dress next to column heading of What a top Gem as she attended "the Jameson Empire Awards last night .. with QOS co-star Olga Kuylenko [not seen in a black dress]. Gemma walked off with the Best Newcomer award" while QOS got Best Thriller award. She is quoted "I'll put it next to my other award which I won for a short play festival when I was 14.". Good for you but hard luck Olga ( 30/04 ).
- I was puzzled why the photo of "Bond Girl Gemma Arterton [who] pours her curves into a slip in tribute to her favourite actress - Hollywood beauty Elizabeth Taylor" turns up on The Sun's tv page. "The 23-year-old - agent Strawberry Fields in QOS - recreated the iconic pose from 1958 film Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." Her tv role of Tess of the D'Urbervilles and more recent film role in the comedy The Boat That Rocked are mentioned but done to "a launch a short film contest" is a strange placing under a heading of Gemma is Taylor-made ? Shame the black wig is a bit suspect ( 07/04 ).
- A photo from the Empire Awards is used on the film pages under SneakLEAK as her "goddess status has been confirmed now she is set to play a deity in a Clash Of The Titans remake." The actress remembers "The original film was one of my favourites when I was a kid."
Hey it must have been on tv Gem ? ( 24/04 ).
James Bond News: Miscellaneous
- Noticed the following Bond related items in The Sun ...
- I don't read the play reviews that often but the one in the paper's Theatre section caught my eye with a photo of wigged and costumed Bond actress Dame Judi Dench seen in the play Madame de Sade at London's Wyndham's. "One-time Bond girl Rosamund Pike" is in the lead role with Judi playing her mum. The reviewer Bill Hagerty "caught up with the show after Judi returned [ from her reported fall ], hobbling slightly and looking as if she'd rather be at home." Trying to understand what "persuaded" her to become involved, his review ends under heading of SADISTIC ACT IS A REAL PAIN "one-and-three-quarters hours of wittering, with no interval - that's real torture." Not set for a long run in the West End then ? ( 03/04 ).
- A six paragraph item titled Casino's a winner reveals "James Bond film CR has been voted the best movie remake of all time in a poll. Nearly one in three fans chose the 2006 thriller with Daniel Craig. .. [The] rental firm LOVEFILM, which polled 1,500 fans" is quoted "Casino Royale was welcomed by male and female audiences alike" with Ocean's Eleven and King Kong runner-ups in their Top Ten. I wonder if Dan's blue trunks won over the lady voters ( 10/04 ).
- BIRTHDAYS:
Apr 05: Bond producer Albert 'Cubby' Broccoli ( would have been 100 ),
Apr 14: TWINE baddie Robert Carlyle ( 48 ) &
Apr 26: Bond girl Claudine Auger ( 67 ).
- Bond Cast/Related TV Spots:
- Film 2009 With Jonathan Ross ( BBC1, Tues 23:05 ) had an item with the host visiting EON London HQ to interview producers Wilson & Broccoli about their recollection of working and life with step-/father Bond producer Albert R 'Cubby' Broccoli to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth. Clips from DN & FRWL were shown as both part of the London BFI season with the latter going on UK general release on April 24 ( 07/04 ).
