Bond In Demand

Sain Bond Tes Bond Mor Bond

The Sun has two supermarket adverts (25cmx15cm) for the release of QOS. Which one attracts your attention the official one on the left full poster & website details or the one on in the middle that it is selling the 2DVD for £007 for three days ? ( 23/03 ).

Having looked around and not in a rush to buy Dan's 2nd outing, I waited today to buy the offer DVD at my local supermarket while doing the weekly shopping, outside is a similar banner boasting price offer but on entering no display case or at the DVD section any sign of the QOS DVD - this was 2nd day of offer at 9 am ! Asked one assistant who explained sold out yesterday as only allocated 500. Heard another assistant giving same explanation. So as I discovered this offer online I ended up returning to the stores' website to order but delivery looks like next week ! Yes it's called Supply & Demand ( 24/03 ).

After Tesco's 3 day offer of £7 ( and Amazon's online one of £6.98 ), a third supermarket advert appears ( seen right ) using same QOS poster indicating they are selling until Sunday 29th @ £9.77 for the 2DVD. Oh we love a 007 price war ! ( 27/03 ).

Choice of 3 Sir ?
Lagonda wrong ?

Those good-looking cars ....

When a new model of a car comes out it's not always associated with a secret agent or movie series. So when Aston Martin update their models the name James Bond & 007 comes into The Sun's review.

  1. Carried over from February was the unveiling of "DBS Volante [which] is breathtaking beautiful - even the name sounds exotic. I could imagine the Volante being the car James Bond picks as his wheels for going on holiday. He already drives the DBS coupé as his work motor. And you can imagine a Bond girl easing into the passenger seat next to 007 as he drives off into the sunset. Don't you just hate him?" Motoring writer Ken Gibson goes on explain that the car "is only the 16th convertible in Aston's 95-year history" and ends "to join the Volante club this summer, you will need a minimum of £168,000." Also seen are two other models: "The Rapide is Aston's first four-door saloon in 20 years" and "The V12 Vantage is a hardcore version .. described as the most potent sports car the firm have ever built." No wonder the page article is titled Aston Mmmartin. I wonder which one is next for James ? ( 27/02 ).
  2. Sadly not impressed as "Aston Martin lifted the motor industry gloom yesterday with this sensational new model. The £150,000 Lagonda AVL attracted huge admiring crowds at the Geneva International Motor Show." With header of Gonda town on this one .. ASTON £150k STUNNER with insert photos of rear and last model back in 1976 ! Sorry it reminds me of one those cars featured in video games like NFS or Burnout ( 05/03 ).

James Bond News: Miscellaneous

  1. Noticed the following Bond related items in The Sun ...
    1. Two small items ...
      1. A small entertainment biz paragraph picks up on the net stories about actress "Jennifer Aniston [who] is desperate to be a Bond girl. .. [She] told Elle magazine: "I get offered funny, quirky, pretty rolles. I'd love to do an action movie. James Bond. Daniel Craig. S*** loads of fun." Hard work too !
      2. A seven ( what else ! ) paragraph item titled 007 Sean court row tells of "James Bond star Sir Sean Connery [who] has been summoned to a Swiss court over an alleged scam worth £50million. Connery, 78, received diamonds and property as collateral for loans he made in the 1970s ... The actor - who denies the claims - is to appear in Geneva next week." ( 03/03 ). Update: missed any follow-up of the star winning the case ( see links below ).

    2. Get along Sean !
    3. This mock-up photo of Bond star Sir Sean Connery ( taken from Dr. No ) brought a smile to my face as Saturday columnist and 007 fan Jeremy Clarkson asks with his heading I want Bond drinking a Martini..not Complan. JC who doesn't know his MI5 from his MI6 as "the director general of MI5 is quoted as saying that since the end of the Cold War there has been no decrease in the number of Russian intelligence officers in UK. .. Quite what all these Russians are hoping to learn by creeping around Britain, I have no idea." About the increase in intelligence staff and abolishing the retirement rule he writes "Of course, we all know that Roger Moore was 45 before he was given his 00 status and 57 when he flung Christopher Walken off the Golden Gate suspension bridge. But the real James Bonds don't have stunt doubles, make-up, sound effects .." Yes of course but they can dream can't they ? ( 07/03 ).

    4. Steady Judi !
    5. Two small items ...
      1. My late mum once had a fall in my local high street, so I know how "acting legend Dame Judi Dench ..[felt] after injuring herself in a fall. She tripped as she left London's Wyndham Theatre on Thursday, severely spraining an ankle. Fans rushed to help." Bond actress Judi is pictured seated receiving attention. Under heading of Judi hurt in tumble the item ends stating that "Dame Judi, 74, started Madame de Sade last Friday. She hopes to be back next week." Get well soon M !
      2. An entertainment paragraph reveals that "Sexy Bond girl Gemma Arterton is the goddess of love. .. The Brit actress will play Aphrodite in one of next year's Hollywood blockbusters, a remake of Clash Of The Titans." Another revealing costume me thinks ! ( 21/03 ).
    6. A small Sun SPOT paragraph reveals ( literally ) that "QOS Bond girl Gemma Arterton, 23, admits she loves big pants - after being snapped flashing her slimming knickers as she got out of a London cab." One knows best ! ( 26/03).
    7. In the Weekend entertainment section Bond singer Chris Cornell does a Q&A for his new album Scream. He is asked Your Bond song (for Casino Royale ) didn't mention the title of the film in the song. In a way, that sums up your individuality, doesn't it? and he replies:
"Lyrically, it was really easy. It was the only book where Ian Fleming wrote this vulnerability into the character, not yet this invincible super spy. On one hand, I was unlucky that I was given this film that had a really s**ty title to write a song to, not like Thunderball or Live And let Die. Nobody wrote a song called Octopussy but I think that was a mistake! They had a great opportunity and they squandered it."
Never short of a word about 007 our Chris, shame he's only artist to choose not to have his song on a Bond soundtrack CD ( 27/03 ).

  2. BIRTHDAYS:
    Mar 02: 007 actor Daniel Craig ( 41 ,) Mar 03: Bond girl Lana Wood ( 63 ), Mar 19: Bond girl Ursula Andress ( 73 ), Mar 21: 007 actor Timothy Dalton ( 63 ) & Mar 30: GE/TWINE actor Robbie Coltrane ( 59 ).
  3. Bond Cast/Related TV Spots:
    1. Corrupt Sean
    2. GE actor Sean Bean in a three-part tv drama called Red Riding ( C4, Thurs 21:00 ). Sean played "John Dawson, a corrupt construction boss .. set in 1970s and 1980s". About the drama he is quoted in The Sun's tv mag:
"The Red Riding storyline is bleak but we did have comical moments during filming. Dawson drives a very swish Jenson Interceptor sports car which handled superbly, but leaked through the doors and windows ! During a scene where I had to drive it during a rainstorm, I got soaked to the skin !" ( 05/03 ).

    3. Serious Art
    4. TLD actor Art Malik turned up in Oxford as Professor Hamid Jassim in the new series of Lewis ( ITV1, Sun 21:00 ), the Inspector Morse spin-off. No Art wasn't the murderer ( 22/03 ).
    5. Film 2009 With Jonathan Ross ( BBC1, Tues 23:05 ) had an item on the DVD/Blue-ray release of QOS with a comedian wanting to be Bond when when he was 40 ! Much to the amusement of interviewed director Forster & star Olga Kurylenko ( both probably hired for the press day ) and outside even more amused stunt director Gary Powell. Apart from the usual movie clips the comedian went to Berkshire to try out the wind fall tunnel used by Dan & Olga ( 24/03 ).
