Wing Swimming Gala 2005
On the 11th September, nine cadets from our squadron attended the Norfolk and
Suffolk Wing swimming gala at Royal Air Force (R.A.F) Wattisham.
We arrived at the squadron at 0800 hrs and after finalising names on some paperwork we were off on the mini bus.
The nerves were starting to show through but we continued to remain positive. At about 0900 we arrived at Wattisham airfield, we registered our team and proceeded to the changing rooms. Once they had been unlocked and we were able to get out onto the pool side we acquired our usual seats. After a 10-minute warm up in the pool we began the heats. However, due to the lack of entrants, some events went to straight finals. On the whole our cadets did well in the heats and some cadets made it through to the finals, I feel that this was due to mine and a my friends cheering from the pool side. CWO Appleby made it into the finals of the backstroke and individual medley. Cpl Fox made it into the final of the freestyle.
Our cadets tried their best and CWO Appleby came away with a bronze medal for the individual medley. I really enjoyed the day the atmosphere was fantastic. I really hope to go again and encourage other cadets to go as well.
