Wind Farms
'Wind
farms' are popping up all over the place at the moment. Why are these great big monstrosities
associated with the word 'farm'? When you think about farms or farming, you think
about the countryside, cows, sheep, growing food and all things natural. There is
nothing natural about wind farms. Did you know that it takes about 40 truck loads of concrete to hold a single turbine? We are supposed to believe that wind farms are somehow ‘green’. How can
they be when the process for produce all that concrete actually generates CO2 during production of the cement needed? Did you also know that turbines produce CO2 during
operation? I do realise that there is a great need to find alternative energy
supplies and stop polluting the atmosphere but I do not believe that wind farms
provide the solution. Not one single power station will close as a direct result of
covering the country in wind farms. Turbines are very temperamental and only
work when the wind is blowing at the right speed. If there isn’t enough wind, the
stop, if there is too much, they need to be stopped or they will break and they
only have a short lifespan. I’m not against wind power. I’m sure that
there are ways of harnessing the wind’s energy and putting it to use. Perhaps
we should all have small turbines attached to our homes like television aerials. Just please, don’t
erect any more of those huge wind farms.
Can
you believe they put turbines there?
This is
a view of the beautiful Killington Lake in Cumbria. If you click on the
picture you’ll get to view a larger version and you should just be able to see a
turbine or two in the top left hand corner. I saw them near the M6 but never dreamt they would
be seen from this beautiful lake.

Loud
Music
Another
thing that really annoys me is loud music. It seems that everywhere you
go
these days there is piped music. Why does it need to be so loud? It
will eventually
cost folk their hearing if not their sanity. There are those
who are campaigning
against it and there are some ‘big’ names connected with these campaigns including
musicians. See
Pipedown’s website. You may also like to have a look at these websites
which give you the facts about noise pollution.
