The Air Cadets are one of the largest youth organizations in the country. We offer a wide range of activities for teenagers, males or females, aged 13 to 18 years.
32F squadron were the first Squadron to be formed in Scotland, in 1938, when the Air Training Corps was known as the Air Defence Cadet Corps (ADCC). At that time 32F were known as 32F (1st Scottish) Squadron, but changed to become 32F (1st Glasgow) Squadron in 1941 when the Air Training Corps came into being.
Being parented by the Royal Air Force means that Air Cadets were the same uniform as the RAF, have the same interests in aviation, the same high level of discipline and are trained in the same way and by the same people.
32F Squadron, and the ATC generally, offers a wide range of activities to suit most tastes. Once you have completed an initial training period, you are enrolled into the Squadron as a 'first class cadet'. We will have provided you with your FREE uniform by this time so now you will really feel 'part of the team'. Being part of our team opens up a whole new world of exciting and challenging activities for you to take part in, all free or costing very little
You can get involved in flying and gliding, formation drill, week long camps at RAF stations and weekend adventure training activities. As well as this, Air Cadets participate in the Corps considerable sporting diary. You could find yourself representing your Squadron, Wing, Region or the Corps in any or all of the Corps list of sports. These sports include: Football; Rugby; Netball; Hockey; Athletics; Swimming; Cross-country running; Archery; Target shooting and Orienteering.
The Air Training Corps is also the biggest operator of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme in the UK. In the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards you can get involved in sport, expeditions in wild country, getting involved in the community and involve yourself in a service such as learning about the police force, the ambulance service or just get stuck into the air cadets even more.
This is important, without the correct training you could not enjoy the many activities that we do.
As some of our events can be strenuous, and even dangerous if not done and supervised properly, we simply won't let you do them if you are not trained properly or the staff of the Squadron are not happy that you can do them safely.
As well as training for the outdoor type stuff, you will also receive instruction in technical type subjects such as Principle of Flight (where you can learn how an aircraft flies), Engines and Airframes, Space Travel, Radio, Map reading, Aircraft Recognition and similar topics. As you learn all about these things you will also get the opportunity to put most of them into practice - probably not the Space Travel, right enough.
New recruits into the Squadron will take part in our New Recruit Training Programme which last around 8 weeks and culminates in qualification as a First Class Cadet
As you become more experienced and involved in the Squadron, you could be given more responsibility and be promoted to the NCO ranks. You can become a Corporal, Sergeant, Flight Sergeant or Cadet Warrant Officer while in the Air Cadets.
As you get older you may be invited to join the staff of the Squadron and get involved in the day to day running of the unit. All of the current staff at 32F are ex-cadets of the ATC and in fact of 32F Squadron.
