WE'RE FREEZIN! FREEZE OUR RENT! Letter to Southwark News:
"Kim Humphreys is right to blame Government policy for putting Council housing rents up (News, page 5) however Southwark Council is responsible for wasting huge sums of housing money: its not just a decent homes “investment” gap, it’s a “waste gap”...MORE
SGTO RANT AT THE GOVERNMENT ABOUT RENT RISE - FAR TOO LATE! And they know it. Hawkstone T&RA began writing to the Council early in 2008 and to Margaret Beckett MP in Autumn 2008. Residents and T&RA's can speak for themselves, they need too. Cris Claridge's letter makes some fair points: READ THE LETTER (jpeg image)
WHY DONT SGTO SPEND "OUR" MONEY OF TOP RATE PROFESSIONAL LEGAL ADVICE INSTEAD OF ITS "EXPENSES"?
Rehousing policy dangers: READ WITH C.W.A.A.P planning documents...how might you be rehoused?

WE ASKED KIM to " reject this Council report & send it back to the people who wrote it, if the Council decides to keep them on. Should never have seen the light of day."
Figures in report "Release of S.106 Monies: Southwark Works", Rotherhithe Community Council 10 Dec 2008, did not even add up! The Council sends out reports full of jargon, errors, omissions, spurious facts, and ill thought out policy: what are our Councillors doing?

VAL SHAWCROSS AM (Labour) came to T&RA meeting on 15th April 2009
A message to Hawkstone residents from Val Shawcross AM :
"I feel many decent residents on the Hawkstone estate have been let down over a long period of time by Southwark Council. Half of the estate still needs basic repair, refurbishment and redecoration and I can see no reason why rent payers and lease holders alike should have been so abjectly ignored and abandoned by the Council. I feel angry enough to do what I can to embarrass the Council about the condition of the estate because otherwise they will continue to focus on future-fantasy rebuild proposals that never come to fruition rather than deal with the real problems that face people here and now. The whole estate could again be clean bright and pleasant and the Council as the responsible Landlord and Freeholder needs to know that carrying on doing nothing is not an acceptable option."

We asked...Why does Southwark Council want to kill our oldies? (Now out of date however the overall comment is still valid + data released confirms the exclusion of purpose built housing at Canada Water to build "family" houses that are then occupied by singles and couples...leaving elderly older people living in some of the worst housing in Southwark. Not balanced developments for all, or even the most needy - "affordable" homes for people earning £60,000 and only about 18-20% homes to rent (or 0) in many developments.
