Beaver Scouts

The Beaver Scout Promise

I promise to do my best
To be kind and helpful
And to love God.

The Beaver Scout Motto

Be Prepared

Beaver Scouts are young people usually aged between six and eight years old. They belong to the first and youngest Section in the Scouting family. Young people can join Beaver Scouts in the three months leading up to their sixth birthday. They can move to the next Section, Cub Scouts, between eight and eight years six months.

Our evening meeting consists of registration, inspection and then fun and games. We do various activities, competitions, cooking, games and stories to learn and take part in. We have a refreshment break about half way through the evening and end the evening with our closing ceremony. We work towards the Beaver activity and challenge badges (creative, explore, experiment, animal friend, healthy eating and many more!) and encourage the Beavers to try and earn their Chief Scout Bronze Award before they leave Beavers to join Cubs.

Our colony consists of 24 boys and girls, who are grouped into four different Lodges named after Royal Navy ships. Each Lodge has an older Beaver as a Lodge Leader and another Beaver as their assistant. These Beavers help to settle new Beavers (called "kits" until they are invested) into their Lodges and the Colony. Our adult leaders and helpers are named after hedgerow animals.

Badges

Our Beavers love earning badges to wear on their uniform. Click here for more information about the badges and what they mean.

Uniform Information

The Beaver uniform is a uniform is turquoise sweatshirt, group necker, black trousers, black socks and black shoes. Within the Beaver colony there are activity and challenge badges you can earn. These badges are sewn on to the shirt.

The image to the right of this text shows you where these badges should be sewn. Please click the image to enlarge.

The Beaver leader will advise you when you will be required to obtain the uniform. Both the shirt and necker are available from the Gosport District Scout and Guide Shop, 30 Alver Road, Gosport.
