Its Wigan and it is not raining!
With 17 karts on the grid it
should be a good race many karts just having a single driver (so come on get those
karts out of the garage and get down to 3 Sisters for the next 2 hr Endurance).
It is a good clean start with
nobody tangling in the first few corners as the pack jostle for position, all except for Motrade who I believe managed an early spin
at the Hairpin (good job its dry this week). - this is Petes version of events "qualified
3rd (our best position for ages), and if Paul had'nt fallen asleep at the start ( he said
there were no red lights before green were shown, excuses, excuses !!!!!!), we would have
been in the leading pack at the start."
For the first 20 minutes of the
race there were 5 teams in close order Balmforth,
GKD66, RPS, GKD46 and Wait for me, all swapping places but keeping
up an excellent pace pulling themselves away from the pack. Then Roy in RPS puts in a few
superb laps to break away from the chasing 4 teams. (during which he set fastest lap of
the race at 47.54) so there we have RPS pulling away from a group of 3 (GKD66, Balmforth and Wait for Me) who have broken
away from Dave Shaw in GKD66 is he asleep again!
After 30 minutes RPS is into the
pits for an agreed driver change (maybe its one evening Roy wishes he had been on his own
as he had extended his lead to a good 50 yds), so we were down to a group of 3 and where
are Demon Rouge (regulars at the front of
the pack- soon to be found in the pits stripping the engine!)
Eventually it is down to 2 karts
(Mike Thoms in GKD46 and John Gorton in Wait for Me) fighting for the lead and what a
fight they were having evenly matched for pace nose to tail with regular
changes of lead until the pitstops, even then they came out back alongside each other
it looked like we were in for a good finish -
with Dave Shaw (GKD66) still take a watching role at about 8 to 10 seconds adrift of the
leading duo.
Into the final 10 minutes its
GKD46 still ahead of Wait for Me by less than 5 seconds and closing in a few tenths each
lap but will it be enough, no Mike Thoms (GKD46) has it under control and comes
through for an excellent Win ahead of John Gorton (Wait for Me) with GKD66 11 seconds adrift.
3 karts on the lead lap and 3
karts Roch Valley, Motrade, Opposite Lock just 1 lap down great
racing.
(Apologies for lack of detail
but I was not planning to write a report! (my excuse)
