"We all stand on trial, for our actions we have denigrated our country and jeopardized the  future of our children." Ken Saro-Wiwa made this statement, six weeks before he was hanged for organising against Shell's destruction of the Ogoni people's environment. "Environmental Victims', which reproduces the full statement, is a book of essays which explore environmental injustices from the victim's perspective. The three parts look at Concepts, Case studies and Solutions, and it concludes with the Charter of Rights against Industrial Hazards.

Environmental Justice is widely explored in this book, largely from a US and Southern perspective. Where this doesn't automatically translate to Scotland, it provides a challenge to us. What is the potential for building an environmental justice movement in a country where racism is institutionalised in non-environmental forms? Can companies be made accountable to communities through "Good Neighbour" agreements? Can we unite movements against community and workplace hazards? A book for all supporters of our environmental justice campaign.
