Disability Education Service

This very successful project has been designed to raise awareness of the issues surrounding disability and to help break down the barriers which are often experienced by disabled people within their local community.

The project is aimed at Primary School children throughout Aberdeenshire, with the theme of "See the person, not the disability".

Many primary schools have been visited and we have received favourable responses. The presentation includes volunteers, who are themselves disabled, introducing themselves, and pupils then play a quick warm up game and watch a video. The pupils can try out a wheelchair, and look at a variety of disability aids and simulation spectacles.

We have made an effort to make an exciting and fun project to get pupils involved and thinking about disabilities.
