SUPPORT, ADVICE & COUNSELLING

FOR BIRTH RELATIVES

Adoption Support has many years experience of working with birth relatives where there is a plan for the adoption of a child and we have helped hundreds of people who needed help in understanding the adoption process.

We understand that birth mothers and fathers are parents of their children for life, even after they have been separated and can no longer care for them. We always offer impartial, non-judgmental advice and can offer support to birth relatives in a variety of ways:

bullet

We can offer people the opportunity to give their version of events and to see what's written about them.

bullet

We can work with birth relatives to provide information for their child or children for their life story books.

bullet

We can provide counselling to help birth relatives cope with the very difficult feelings around losing a child or children to adoption.

bullet

We can provide ongoing support before and after an Adoption Order has been granted.

bullet

We can give advice and assistance in how to make contact arrangements work.

bullet

We can offer birth relatives meetings at a convenient location close to their homes, or at our offices in Birmingham.

Whilst Adoption Support can provide a great deal of useful support throughout and beyond the adoption process, we can't:

bullet

Provide information for court reports or appear in court on behalf of birth relatives.

bullet

Change or influence the plans that have been made for a birth relative's child or children.

bullet

Provide legal advice.

If you are a birth relative who would like some independent advice to help you though the adoption process, please call our helpline on the number above and we will happy to talk to you.

The service we provide to birth relatives is free of charge to anyone who qualifies for services from Adoption Support
