INTERMEDIARY SERVICES

FOR BIRTH RELATIVES

If you are the birth relative of an adopted person over the age of 18 with whom you would like to make contact you can request an Intermediary Service.

In line with the Adoption & Children Act 2002, and as a registered Adoption Support Agency, we can provide this service on your behalf.

bullet

We will ask to meet with you to enable us to assess whether or not it is appropriate to provide an Intermediary service on your behalf. We are legally required to seek the views of the adoption agency who hold the records (this is usually the adoption agency who arranged the adoption), before deciding whether or not to provide this service.

bullet

As a birth relative you are not allowed to have any identifying information about your adopted relative, i.e. their name, address, etc. however, in some circumstances it may be possible to share with you some non-identifying information from the adoption file.

bullet

We can carry out research to trace the adopted adult and ask them if they wish to have any contact with you.

bullet

If the adopted person wishes for contact we will facilitate this depending on the wishes of both parties, eg exchange of information, correspondence, setting up a meeting, etc.

bullet

We will continue to offer support and advice to all parties.

If you would like to request an Intermediary Service please contact us and we can discuss your needs. Please see here for a list of applicable charges.
