Loo Roll & Nappy Bags

You are here: Home > Recommended Holiday Destinations > Greece > Little Tip

I didn't know this but apparently the Greeks invented the modern day lavatory system but in the words of the girl from the tour operator "they haven't done much with it since!" Basically, you shouldn't put any toilet paper, sanitary towels, etc. down the loo because they will just block the pipes. They aren't as big as the ones we've got in the UK.

What you're supposed to do is put any used toilet paper and towels in the bin that's provided. Everyday, the maid will take the bag away. The problem is it isn't long before the smell becomes quite over-powering in that kind of heat. However, I have a solution for you and it's a HUGE "Thank you!" to Carol for coming up with this idea.

Take some fragranced nappy bags with you. I guess you can get them while you're over there but I wouldn't count on it! Put all your used loo roll and stuff in the nappy bag and tie it as air-tight as you can. I guess you could use freezer bag ties to get it really air-tight. It doesn't get rid of the smell completely ( in that situation, I don't think anything could ) but it sure makes it a LOT more bearable!
