Avoiding Mosquito Bites

You are here: Home > Recommended Holiday Destinations > Greece > Mosquitoes

Spanish mosquitoes I can handle but Greek ones are a breed apart. I've had mosquito bites before but they were never like the ones I got in Greece. I had a really bad reaction to them and they were hell-on-earth. I've still got the scars. There's 1 on my finger that still swells up over 6 weeks later. I was given the following advice while I was there. It was a bit late to do me any good but it seems plausible enough to work.

Before you go anywhere, build up a resistance to having an allergic reaction by taking some antihistamines. You can get them over the counter in most chemists. Having a resistance to the mosquito poison will stop the bite being so itchy as well as stopping some of the swelling and redness.

NOTE: You should consult your doctor/pharmacist before taking any medications that are not prescribed!

I knew I had a slight allergy to mosquitoes before I went so I bought some repellant. It was absolutely rubbish. It didn't work for me at all. I'm told the best repellant is simply called Mosquito Milk and it's available in most bigger chemists. I've not found it since I've been back but then I haven't really looked.

I've not tried any of the above out so I will not be held responsible if it doesn't work. This is advice I got from a British woman who had moved to Kefalos. It worked for her and it might work for you. Either way, .
