PUBLISHED BOOK
In this book the author writes about how he gave up his job at the Home Office in London to move to Whitchurch Canonicorum to open a pottery and spend more time photographing butterflies. Several of the chapters in this autobiography describe how he set up the pottery, experimented with various materials, exhibited and sold his work. There is information about the foundation of ‘The Dorset Pottery Group’, what pottery workshops and kiln firing events were arranged by the Group and also how, for the Millennium, its members created the large ceramic ammonite which is displayed in the garden at the rear of Bridport Arts Centre. This ammonite is over two metres in diameter and its outer segments depict scenes from Dorset’s history. Other parts of the book cover the author’s interest in the fauna and flora of Dorset and how he came to write monthly ‘Nature Notes’ for the local Parish Magazine. Further chapters describe many other facets of rural living encountered along the way and how the author and his wife embraced their new village life. It is hoped that these experiences might provide some useful tips for anybody wishing to leave a city life for a more rewarding one in the country.
