Sea Survival
"MARITIME
TRAINING" specialises in the "RYA Small Craft basic sea
survival" courses for both commercial and pleasure sailors. This
one-day course is a RYA certified course and is a pre-requisite of
someone who requires a commercial endorsement to his or her Coastal
Skipper or Yachtmaster certificate.
The following subjects are covered during the course:
-
Types of lifejackets.
Construction and classification of liferafts.
Liferaft packs and equipment.
Preparation for survival.
Two hours practical
liferaft training in a pool.
Cold water survival.
The medical aspects of survival.
The rescue services.
Lifejackets and foul weather gear is worn during the
two-hour pool training session. Students are required to sign a health
declaration stating that they are fit to carry out the practical time in
the swimming pool.
Block bookings of up to twelve persons will be offered
special rates. This is particularly suited to students undertaking night
school theory courses.
Mike Dymond who runs the courses was selected to do
the very first instructor's course and has taken hundreds of sailors
through the survival course. He has also spent time in a liferaft for
real!
