| One of the most ancient and
traditional of sports, archery calls to mind romantic visions of
Crecy, Robin Hood (not forgetting Maid Marian!) and William Tell,
etc., and there are few people who have not, at some time in
their lives, been attracted to the idea of drawing a bow. Today, target archery is one of
the most popular family sports and, despite the misconception
that it is a "minority sport", there are hundreds of
clubs throughout the United Kingdom - almost 50 in Kent alone.
The age range of archers is
wide indeed - juniors can start as early as 12 years old and
there are people in their 80's still enjoying their shooting.
Some have the idea that you "must be strong" to be good
at archery, but this is very far from the truth; unfortunately,
this fallacy frequently deters people from having a go. Modern
archery equipment enables everyone to shoot comfortably and
without strain. The Club Coach or archery specialist shops will
always be happy to advise.
