Kosova PEN Center / PEN Qendra e Kosoves

A brief history:

Kosova’s writers established the PEN Center of Kosova on 29th of January 2004 in Prishtina. On 9th September 2004, in the 70th Congress, in Tromso, Norway, PEN Center of Kosova was officially admitted in the world’s largest organization of writers, International PEN headquartered in London. International PEN was established in London, in 1921 by notable authors. PEN Centers from all over the world have played an important role in establishing a climate of co-operation and peace in the world. The admission of Kosova’s PEN Center in PEN International was received as an extraordinary event for the cultural institutions of Kosova and integration of Kosova in the world.

P.E.N. International is a world renowned organism with first-hand importance for world culture and relations among communities. Hence, the Kosova PEN Center has launched its activities in establishing cultural contacts, presentation of literary and artistic achievements of Kosova in the world, as well worldwide achievements (particularly those from the region and Europe) to the Kosovar public.
 

Round table debates: on literature and culture topics, such as Intellectuals and Critical Awareness, Book in Crisis; Freedom of the Media: Culture Integrations; Literary Translations; Globalism and Diversity; Publishing: Publication of a series of books on literary criticism and theory; Book promotions: Books written by PEN members were promoted on several occasions in the National and University Library premises in the capital Prishtina.

10. A project has been approved by PEN Board which includes a Balkan regional meeting «Balkan Writers' Voice from Prishtina»; publication of a literary magazine «Literatura», etc.
