J M W TURNER (1775 - 1851)

This page is dedicated to my favourite painter J M W Turner, " The Painter of Light"

Joseph Mallord William Turner, the son of a barber and wig maker, and a mother, Mary Marshall, a housewife, was born at 21 Maiden Lane, Covent Garden. Turner received almost no general education but at 14 was already a student at the Royal Academy of Arts. In 1791 for the first time he exhibited two watercolours at the Royal Academy.
