The Ferry.

The ferry linking Teignmouth and Shaldon is thought to have operated for over 1000 years since Saxon times, the "Little" ferry (the smaller of the two ferries), built at Mashfords in Plymouth is itself  100 years old and the oldest operational ferry in the UK.

The oldest known photograph of the ferry, believed to be in the 1890's, the ferryman possibly "Shrimpy" Mole. The 1891 census lists other ferrymen as:- Richard Onion who liked to be called O'Nion of (Middle St) who had a wooden leg , and William Gilpin (also Middle St).
