St Albans Folk Music

St Albans Folk Music organises pub sessions, workshops linked to concerts and an annual 'New roots' competition for young musicians. It is a part of the 'Folk at the Festival' Committee which organises the St Albans Folk Festival.

New Roots an event for young musicians. If you are under 25 and play folk, roots or traditional music, we would like to hear from you. For further details, click here.

Sessions Mainly traditional Irish, English, Scottish and other traditional music. All welcome to listen or to play.

Weekly sessions at 8.30pm on Wednesdays are no longer at the Rose and Crown. Watch this space for further news. The session on March 14 will be along the road at the Six Bells but this is not a permanent arrangement.

Monthly sessions at the Great Northern, London Road at 6.00pm on Sundays, usually on the fourth Sunday of the month.


St Albans Folk Festival
St Albans Folk Festival will be on June 15 - 17 2018, with the main events being on Saturday June 16. These will include a Day of Dance, free showcase performances, sessions, singarounds, workshops and a festival concert featuring The Dovetail Trio, Grannyís Attic, Watford Folk Club song competition winner, Julian Mount and a New Roots finalist. Tickets for the festival concert are now on sale. They can be booked online here, by phone on 0333 666 3366 or in person at St Albans Central Library. Friday June 1, 8.00pm An Dha, return visit by fiddle and cello duo playing Celtic music from the British Isles and local duo, Elizabeth & Jameson, bringing together Hannah Elizabeth from Said the Maiden with Griff Jameson from Fredís House



Friday July 6, 8.00pmThe Daria Kulesh Quartet, a new band, making its first local appearance at The Maltings plus Ben Moss and New Roots finalists, Bow by Bow. Rescheduled from March 2. If you have a ticket for March 2, you will not need to pay again.

St Michael's Street folk evening will be on Wednesday July 4 2018. Dancing in St Michael's Street and music everywhere.
