We don't yet know St Albans Council's plans for a festival in 2012. It has yet to decide the dates. We are going ahead and making our own plans.St Albans Folk at the Festival 2012
Folk at the Festival is holding a day of dance on Saturday June 30.
We are planning to have another Old Town Hall Folk Day on the same day. Feedback from the Folk Day this year in St Albans Town Hall has been very good. The concert in the evening attracted a good crowd and the Singaround in the Cells was a huge success. There were obviously acoustic issues in the Court Room that need to be overcome, but those that participated in the day enjoyed the experience of performing in an unusual setting. There were a lot of challenges in putting this together in the amount of time we had and also the lack of publicity we had been promised by the Council but which didn't materialise. We were determined to go ahead and realise that in so doing we could not organise everything as we would have wanted. We took heart that people were indicating that they wanted to do it again next year.
What is needed for this to grow is for people to get involved in the organisation of the day, in stewarding, publicity, running an event for instance. There is also the need for external funding suggestions. A date of 30th June has been set for next year's event in the Town Hall and there is likely to be music in local pubs on the following day, Sunday July 1.
Perhaps local folk clubs and music session regulars would like to take a more active role?
