It was great to have our dear friend The Rev. Bernard Baines with us again while Robert was away on holiday. Bernard had a very busy weekend officiating at a wedding on the Saturday followed by a wedding rehearsal. On the Sunday he took our morning Communion Service (it was lovely to have our friends from All Hallows with us) and in the afternoon officiated at a wedding blessing. We have given him our thanks for all his help and support and enthusiasm.

Future Diary Dates:

September 9th: Concert of Summer Music by a String Quartet at 7.30pm.

We have had two lovely concerts in our church during May. The first by Radcliffe Ladies Choir which was very well received by a full church. There were a great variety of songs and with several super solos and Val's reading of a Rudyard Kipling Poem about gardens, it all led to a splendid evening's entertainment.

The second concert was equally enjoyable but very different. It was of baroque music played by Wendy Hancock and Philip Weller from Nottingham and Jean-Pierre Menuge and Celine Largeaud from France. The music was beautifully played on period instruments, a flute, recorder, baroque cello and harpsichord. The harpsichord had been built by Jean-Pierre and was a real work of art as well as a lovely sounding instrument. His 14 year old daughter joined them for one piece and she played really expertly on her baroque cello. All in all, certainly an evening to remember.

It was lovely to welcome Rev. George Puncheon to St. Edmunds last Sunday evening whilst Robert was taking a well-deserved holiday. We really enjoyed his service and we hope he will visit us in the not too distant future.

We now look forward to our great friend Rev. Bernard Baines' visit on Whitsunday.

Life seems to be pretty busy at St. Edmund's at the moment. Our Spring Coffee Morning in Holme Pierrepont Hall on April 1st was a great success, raising just over £700. Our thanks go to the Brackenbury Family for allowing use to use their home and to Elizabeth for her splendid plant stall. It was lovely to have our friends from Lady Bay with their stall and we hope they had a successful day. Frank's bird tables are now finding their way to new areas of Nottinghamshire.

Easter day services were very well attended, despite quite a few of our regulars being away with their families. Bernard (Rev. Bernard Baines) was in great form and it was marvellous to see a church full of smiling faces.

We are now looking forward to our concert season and we hope that these will be well supported; it is much nicer to sing to a full church and a lot of hard work goes into putting on a concert. Keith Morgan who is the Ladies acting conductor for the concert on the 13th May, has been travelling to and from High Wycombe each week to teach us some new music; sodo please come and make his journey worthwhile.

April 1st 2006

Unfortunately, due to inclement weather, the outdoor working party went indoors. The inside of the Church and the brasses had a thorough clean, and thanks go to all who turned out to lend a hand.

Due to various unforseen circumstances, the outing to Waddesden Manor will be on July 5th. Anyone interested in joining us should contact Herbert and Sylvia on

The best piece of news this month is that, thanks to a couple of very generous donations, the necessary finances are now in place to put the work on the new toilet facilities in hand. The necessary permissions now need to be sought. The fund raising account is being kept open as the plans may need to be altered slightly.

The February Feast was a great success and it provided the Fabric Fund with a very good profit. Neil and Maureen received a leaving present of some crystal wine glasses and a bottle of very special red wine. Robert, Kate and Rosie were present at the event.

January 1st 2006

Today the new United Benefice of Lady Bay with Holme Pierrepont and Adbolton was officially born. The Church Commissioners confirmed this by letter on December 31st 2005. Although there will still be two parishes there will be one incumbent, the Vicar of Lady Bay, Robert Breckles. He, however, is now officially the Rector of the Benefice. Members of the All Hallows congregation attended the annual Bell Service at St. Edmunds, Holme Pierrepont this morning following Communion at All Hallows. An announcement of the official linking of the parishes was made at both churches. Robert will officiate at Communion Services at St. Edmunds at least twice a month - other joint services are hoped to be planned in the future. The church at Holme Pierrepont was full this morning as the work of the bell ringers was celebrated. The choir was augmented by members of the All Hallows Choir. It was a splendid occasion.
