April - 2008 I think we should be free to choose when to celebrate Easter according to the weather forecast! How lovely it is to be able to step out of church into a world in the throes of Spring where sunshine, bird song, blossom and new leaf all seem to be proclaiming the Easter message that 'Christ is risen! He is risen indeed, alleluia!' Easter was a bit too early this year to expect so much, and there were snow flurries over the weekend; but nonetheless both churches had excellent congregations that worthily celebrated the new life of the resurrection and set us up for the months ahead. Of course, one or two good festivals don't necessarily mean a church is in good shape; but they do show that interest is around, and motivate those of us who work hard but see only small congregations for most of the year. I hope they will encourage good attendance at our annual meetings - Sunday 27th at St. Edmund's, Monday 28th at All Hallows' - where we would be delighted to welcome some 'new blood' onto our church councils. Other encouraging signs are the eight baptisms that have, or will, take place at our two churches in the first half of the year, and the five candidates (mainly wedding couples) for confirmation, who are beginning a course this month. Do include them in your prayers. Confirmation - will be at Bingham on June 11th. Discussions begin Wednesday April 9th - enquiries welcome. I would like to thank all, at both churches, who gave me cards or contributed to generous presents on my 60th birthday. Robert
