αλφα-soft is really just a collection of free software at the moment, but I hope one day to start a more organised open-software site. The reason for the 'αλφα' (which is Greek for alpha) is because there is at least one (and, it appears, more than one) existing company with the name 'Alpha Soft' or 'Alpha Software', so by using a part-Greek name I hope to avoid infringing on anyone's trademarks or copyrights. If you have any relevant information on copyright legislation, please do click 'Feedback' at the top, and tell me all about it.
The main reason for my having a website is to distribute my freeware programs which I have written; they are coded in BASIC.
αλφα-soft need testers to try out new programs prior to release. If you are interested in beta-testing any of my programs, please click the 'Feedback' button, and let me know.
This site was created with Notepad, because I think that programs to write html code for you are somehow immoral. And this way means that I know how my site works so I can (hopefully) fix it if it's broken.
If you're wondering why the site is called 'Just to the Left of Venus', well it's because a friend and I came up with the name whilst generally idle, and I felt it was too good a name to waste, so I used it here.
I am 16 years old, male, atheist, halfway autistic, and from somewhere in Lincolnshire, England. Besides programming, my interests include maths, amateur radio, maths, reading a lot, maths, physics, maths and Meccano. I play the cornet, and have Grade VII. I have come up with an intriguing theory of fundamental physics; it can be found in the 'Miscellaneous' section. I have been moved up a year of school (so I am currently in the upper sixth form [nowadays called Year 13] and studying for A2 levels). After sixth form, my heart is set on going to Trinity College, Cambridge, to read maths, and I don't know what I'll do if they won't have me.
The feedback link opens a mailto: for the tech support e-mail address (provided by the good people at GMail).
Everything on this site was created by me, except the Spread Firefox banners (in fact, the one on the index page is mine as well), the RDF banner, the ad for Nick Gisburne's book, the 'Burn IE' 'Internet Exploder' and 'IE is EVIL' buttons, and the ClustrMap.
I hate Microsoft.
