 A Brief Biography

Allan's Photo    Since the late 1960s Allan has acted, composed and played for theatre, TV and dance all over Scotland.

On guitar, flute and saxophone, he has played with poets from Allen Ginsberg to Adrian Mitchell, musicians from John Renbourn and Isaac Guillory to Tim Hardin and Aly Bain and has featured on several CDs (three with Dick Gaughan).

He has played in several bands, worked with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, toured with Cappella Nova and has recorded a well-regarded CD of his own songs.

He has acted with Mel Gibson (see story), Harvey Keitel, Romy Schneider, Ray McAnally, Richard Briers, Robbie Coltrane AND Chic Murray!!

His own company "Roughcast" premiered the plays of novelist James Kelman, touring from the Scottish Highlands to Bavaria in the 1980s.  In 2000 he toured Scotland as Oberon in Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Nights Dream" and recently toured from Inverness to Bangor in Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard".

His TV work has included "Monarch of the Glen", "High Road", "Hamish MacBeth" and "Taggart" (five times) and he has featured on film with directors from Bill Forsyth and Kees Ryninks to Ian Sellar and Bertrand Tavernier.
