WEYMOUTH & PORTLAND FROM THE AIR
NB  Although originals of these pictures are unmarked they are believed to be Crown Copyright/MOD and are used with permission of HMSO. They are rather large and detailed and therefore may take a few seconds to load but well worth the wait. The pictures were taken during the 1980s. possibly from a Royal Navy helicopter based at (HMS Osprey) Portland Naval Base which can be seen in several of the pictures. Weymouth outer harbour showing the town bridge leading to the inner harbour. The lifeboat can be seen moored in the outer harbour. The Holy Trinity Church and Town Hall can be seen to the left of the bridge. And the Asda supermarket and Social Services offices in the background on the site of the old football pitch and where the Sydney Hall once stood. Entrance to Weymouth harbour with the Nothe Fort in the foreground. View of the island of Portland showing the harbour at northern end and the Portland lighthouse at the Southern point. Many well known London buildings were built from Portland stone and the numerous quarries can be seen to the North on this picture.
