PSK31 and other Digital modes.

PSK31 is probably one of the most popular so called, "Digital Modes". It is ideal for QRP use

and if correctly setup, takes up very little bandwidth, typicaly around 40Hz. There are many

software packages around, such as Digipan, Winpsk, and MixW. I use Digipan but all programmes

are setup in a similar way, and give similar results. Digipan will only operate in 3 modes,

BPSK31, QPSK, AND FSK31. MixW will operate on many more modes such as RTTY, HELL

Amtor, Pactor, and even SSTV, however, whilst Digipan is Freeware, MixW is Shareware and the

demo edition will work for 15 days before you get the, "please register messages".

So how do I set it up to work ?. Very easy. All you need is the Audio out from your set connected to the Line input of your PC,s soundcard, and the soundcard audio out connected to your sets mic input, via an attenuator resistor, about 10k is fine. To key your set you can either use the sets VOX, or if it dosn't have one, use the PC,s serial port to operate a simple 1 transistor switch.

So, what do the various signals look like.

RTTY. .............................SSTV.

Hellschreiber,.............................MT63(note the bandwidth 1kc).
