The A.G.M. of our Fellowship decided to try to keep the S.U.F. going, despite the financial and other problems, so here we are with the new version of 'The LINK'. As you know, there have been problems with finance etc., so this is a possible answer! I am willing to continue with the S.U.F. and to issue this 'Newsletter' quarterly (with perhaps a Christmas issue of the 'LINK'!) if that is what you wish.

The alternative is to shut down the S.U.F. completely and totally.

What do YOU think?

If you accept this innovatory attempt to keep the 'ball' running, then I must ask you to submit your annual subscription to me no later than the 12th.October this year! This will remain as a minimum of £5 per annum, per person, for the time being, but, of course, if you wish to give an extra donation to the S.U.F. funds then that will be truly welcomed! Cheques to Colin please, but made out to the Scottish Unitarian Fellowship.

If I don't hear from you, then I shall have to assume that you wish to discontinue your membership of the S.U.F. I intend to continue with the web-site, and of course there is always the phone, the E.Mail and the post as a means to keep in touch!!

Here is an old Highland Grace: "Lord, turn the world upside down, that Christians might make bread of it".

MINISTER'S LETTER

Dear Friends,

I am very sorry to have to inform you that one of our most stalwart members, William Gauld of Crieff, died recently only very shortly after a visit from my father, Rev Dr Colin. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family at this sad time.

You have all been made well aware of the crisis currently facing the S.U.F., financial and otherwise. Considering the struggle some of us had to get the Fellowship up and running, I would be most disappointed if we had to discontinue. I am convinced that the S.U.F. can make a very important contribution to Scottish Unitarianism, both within Scotland and elsewhere. and I look forward to your continuing support which will enable Unitarianism to be a religious force to be reckoned with!

With my very best wishes to you all,

Rev ANNE Wicker

THE MODERN UNITARIAN

I am the very model of a modern Unitarian,
Far broader than a Catholic, Christian, Jew or Presbyterian.
I know the world's religions, and can trace their roots historical,
From Moses up to Chopra, all in order categorical.
I'm very well acquainted, too, with theories theological,
on existential questions I am always 'holy' logical,
About most any problem I am abundant with a lot of views,
I'm full of ideas that should fill our church's empty pews.

I use the latest language; God is never father or the Lord,
But Ground of Being, Source of Life, or almost any other word.
I never pray, I meditate, I'm leery about worshipping.
I serve on 5 committees, none of which accomplish anything.
I have good UU principles (although I'm not sure what they are)
I give to worthy causes; I drive a gas-conserving car.
I serve the sick; I feed the poor, it is vital, (I keep score).
I hug a tree, and worship me; I create my own identity.
I'm open to options of profound or broad variety,
Unless they're too conservative or smack of righteous piety.

I quote from Freud and Pavlov and all the experts very logical.
I'm anti-nuke, I don't pollute, I'm virtuously ecological.
I bear the scars of my religious youth, completely psychological.
I formulate agendas and discuss them with the best of 'em.
In short in matters spiritual, ethical, material
I unfortunately am the very model of today's religious liberal.

Erin O'Mally

This can be sung to the tune of Gilbert & Sullivan's patter song!

It was sent by Mr J.Gaston on the British Unitarian Chat Line*, but Mr Gaston asks me to convey his name as an humble and penitent Unitarian who sends his Best Wishes to all his fellow believers in the Scottish Unitarian Fellowship.
