Date : Sat. May 10th 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : Crown Taverners Venue : Away

Batting first, Littleton got off to a steady start through Dave Guy(17) and Nigel Louth.  Paul Anscombe added a good 31, before the middle order collapsed against the bowling of S. Panda (3-40) and Hall, Hodgkinson and Walter who each took two wickets.  Louth eventually fell for a patient 59, and Dan White(12) and Nigel Dibben(21), batting at number 10 wagged the tail leaving a challenging total of 184-6.

In replay, Hayhoe(27) and Griffiths(41) had an excellent start taking the score to 100 with the loss of only one wicket.  This though could have been so different if Hugh Baker had not dropped two catches in two consecutive balls in the first over.  Phil Cook was his usual tidy self, bowling his 11 overs, 1-22.  Dan White then came into the attack and bowled superbly taking 4-36 and leaving Crown in trouble.  The game then changed again with S. Panda clubbing a hard hitting 38no and with Hodgkinson (18) claimed the victory with 3 overs to spare .

Catches this season : Dan White - 2

Champagne Moment : Dan White for his 4 wickets on debut.

Dick of the Day : Hugh Baker for the 2 dropped catches in 2 balls in the first over.

Fines :  None awarded, rolled up into next week.  Dave Guy, Nigel Louth, Oli Sheldrake, Paul Anscombe, Steve Fenner, Phil Cook, Matt Woods, Dan White, Hugh Baker, Nigel Dibben, Mark Dibben

Date : Sat. May 10th 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Crown Taverners II Venue : Littleton

A resounding win for the 2nds against Crown Taverners. After being asked to bat Littleton were in a little bit of trouble at 24-2 but a superb stand of 100 between M Vel & John Eacott steadied the ship Eacott making a solid 32. Vel batted superbly for a sweetly hit 79. Then enter Simon Fountain with an astonishing display of hitting.  His 47 runs came off just 13 balls including five consecutive 6's in one over. He eventually holed out to deep point. The tail batted sensibly to take the total to 223-9.

In reply Crown Taverners were soon in trouble being 2-2 after 3 overs.  They never recovered. Miserly bowling by Alan Zanetti 2-5 off seven overs stemmed their batting. Newcomer Adam (Arnie) Watson with 3-35 and Tim McCormack with 4-23 finished off the innings, with maximum points a great start to the season

W* of the week Ravi Anwar for his duck and superb belly flop to miss the ball in the outfield!

Date : Sat. May 17th 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : Alton III Venue : Littleton

On a day when rain threatened, Alton were asked to bat first, and initially this looked an excellent decision.  Nigel Louth 12-3-23-1 and Hugh Baker 10-1-33-3 tore into the Alton top order and reduced them to 50-5 off 20 overs. Lee Partner (60) was joined by Paul Heffernan (37) and they put on 87 together.  Phil 'Bobtail' Cook was introduced as third change bowler (a first ?) and as usual decimated the tail, taking 3-17 off 6 overs.  In a shambles of a last over, 3 dropped catches and a missed run out saw Alton avoid getting bowled out and get to 175-9.

In reply, the Littleton batting was a disaster, especially against young 17 year old Alex Cooper. Nigel Dibben, Oli Sheldrake, Steve Fenner, Paul Anscombe and Graham Gale all fell without making double figures with the total at 55-7.  Phil Cook then took on the attack with a patient yet attacking 35no, but then ran out of partners.  Cooper took 5-35 and P. Sampson 3-15 as the final total subsided to 110 all out.

Catches this season : Dan White - 2, Andy Walker - 1

Champagne Moment : Phil Cook, 3 wickets and 35no.

Dick of the Day : Dave Guy for his dropped catch that made Squirts one at Overton a couple of years ago look difficult !  Although Oli's excuses for turning up an hour late came a close second.

Fines :  Dave Guy - 11(22), Nigel Louth - 15, Oli Sheldrake - 22, Paul Anscombe - 11, Steve Fenner - 17, Phil Cook - 18(0), Andy Walker - 18, Graham Gale - 5, Hugh Baker - 14, Nigel Dibben - 14, Mark Dibben - 14, Ray Fenner - 10, Derek Dibben - 6

Date : Sat. May 17th 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Liss III Venue : Away

Another resounding victory for the 2nds against Liss. After being asked to bat first a steady start was made by Derek Dibben and Pete Arculus.  Once Dibben had departed, a superb stand of 107 between Arculus and John Eacott (55) put Littleton in the driving seat. Ravi Anwar then scored a hard hitting 37 in just 6 overs while trying in parallel to keep Arculus awake. The final total was a respectable 210-3 with Arculus carrying his bat for 59no.
In reply Liss had no answer to the bowling of Littleton.  Will Lecomber 4-13 and Tim "Heinz" McCormack 3-25 destroyed the top order, before Adam "Arnie" Watson mopped up the tail with 3-5, leaving Liss all out for a paltry 43. Maximum points for the second week running.

W* of the week, Peter Arculus 59no in 42 overs yawn! yawn!

Date : Sat. May 24th 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : Farley Venue : Farley

On a good batting track, Farley elected to bat first.  Littleton made two early breakthroughs via Hugh Baker(3-63), although the second being a full toss which really should have vanished out of the ground.  A.Coveney(37) and R.Covill(35) then savaged the bowling with one Baker over going for 22 and with 69 on the board after 12 overs looked in control. Nigel Louth (1-26 off 12) avoided the carnage, and the introduction of Dan White(4-37) changed the game.  Two quick catches by Squirt behind the stumps supported by excellent slip catches from Nigel Dibben and Paul Anscombe changed the game and at 122-8 it had swung back to Littleton.  Enter 17 year olds D.Probert(20) and M.Burton(37) who proved superb tailenders playing an array of classy shots and were particular savage on 'Bobtail' Cook whose 2 wickets cost him 43 runs. The final total was a respectable 174 all out.

In reply, the skipper decided to play it like a 20/20 game and opened with himself and Nigel Dibben. Anscombe scored a quick 31 off 19 balls before chipping a catch to mid-off, then standing at the crease like a statue not appearing to want to depart. Nigel Louth(17) joined Nigel Dibben and the score rocketed to 99 off 15 overs.  It was then down to the silver fox Derek Dibben to join his lad.  What followed was a family fest of shots, with runs being hit all over the ground.  With the scores tied, Nigel was caught for a superb 74, while Derek was there at the end on 30no.  The required 175 was achieved for the loss of only 3 wickets on only 31 overs.

Catches this season : Andy Walker - 3, Dan White -2, Nigel Dibben - 2, Nigel Louth - 2, Steve Fenner -2, Paul Anscombe - 1

Champagne Moment : The debate will roll on about this.  Nige Dibben for 74 and 2 slip catches, nah, Dan White for 4 wickets, nah, Paul Anscombes 31 and slip catch, nah, Steve Fenner for dropping one dolly, catching another, then also a subsequent reasonable chance and doing sod all else....YES.    Hmmmm, guess who the fines master was today then !!.

Dick of the Day : Hmmmm, Initially awarded to Phil Cook for his violent grunt as he sent down a wide delivery.  Close call from Steve Fenners dropped catch and Nige Dibben getting out when the scores were tied, Dereks comment about the dog owner.......then after an EGM of the committee in the car park, awarded to Squirt who had left his camera outside the pavilion, luckily spotted by Ray Fenner.

Fines :  Nigel Dibben - 18, Derek Dibben - 16, Paul Anscombe - 23, Steve Fenner - 11(0), Dan White - 15, Graham Gale - 3, Hugh Baker - 16, Andy Walker - 10(20), Phil Cook - 20, Nigel Louth - 16, Mark Dibben - 14, Ray Fenner - 6, Dave Guy - 5, Oli Sheldrake - 5

Date : Sat. May 24th 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : RNA Sports Venue : Littleton

The 2nds were sent crashing to their first defeat of the season by a very good RNA side.  After being put in RNA scored 210-7 with Will Lecomber taking 3-54 wickets & Adam Watson 2-50.

In reply Littleton were soon in dire trouble and reduced to 2455  Only skipper Peter Arculus who carried his bat for 24no offered any sort of resistance and the innings collapsed to 55 all out . All in all it was an abysmal batting display.

W* of the week Will Lecomber : 1st ball duck and celebrating the fact

Date : Sat. May 31st 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : AWE Tadley Venue : Littleton

On a damp track, Littleton were invited to bat first and struggled from the start.  Nigel Dibben fell cheaply, and Dave Guy(18), Oli Sheldrake(20) and Nigel Louth(23) made starts but were out to poor shots.  M.Stead(3-31), A.Burt(3-41) and A.Stead(3-21) made regular inroads, and it was left again for Phil Cook with a patient yet aggressive 33no to take the score to 129 all out before he ran out of partners.

In reply, AWE struggled from the start against the bowling of Cook and Louth. They were reduced to 49-5 then 77-9 with Louth taking a superb 5-32 off his 12 overs.  But, young J.Parsons remained defiant and teamed up with last man A. Stickland (12no).  Mark Dibben (1-26) and Paul Anscombe (1-18) could not break the partnership as they crept ever nearer the total.  Eventually Cook (2-28) returned and bowled Parsons who had made 49, and AWE finished 17 runs short on 112.

Catches this season : Andy Walker - 3, Nigel Dibben - 3, Nigel Louth - 3, Dan White -2, Steve Fenner -2, Paul Anscombe - 2

Champagne Moment : With AWE looking like taking an unlikely victory, the flying one handed catch above his head at deep extra cover by Paul Anscombe totally deserved the award.  The batsman could not believe it and stood in awe for about 30 seconds before departing.

Dick of the Day : Not too many to consider, so it went to someone who had never had this accolade.  For putting all the numbers away, storing them nicely, but completely missing the ones still on the scoreboard, then having realised it, doing nothing about it, congratulations, Derek Dibben.

Fines :  Nigel Dibben - 16, Derek Dibben - 24(48), Paul Anscombe - 19(0), Steve Fenner - 17, Oli Sheldrake - 14, Graham Gale - 12, Andy Walker - 15, Phil Cook - 22, Nigel Louth - 27, Mark Dibben - 14, Ray Fenner - 9, Dave Guy - 9, Frank Street - 2 , Dan White - 5

Date : Sat. May 31st 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Aldershot Venue : Away

The 2nds snatched victory from jaws of defeat in a nail biting victory over Aldershot. After winning the toss Aldershot were asked to bat. Their openers made steady progress despite of some tight bowling, especially Will Lecomber who only conceded 11 runs from his 12 overs. The first wicket fell at 85 then Steve Barrow 3-25 and spin king Chris Tee 2-34 restricted Aldershot to a disappointing 132-6.

In reply the Littleton quickly lost 3 wickets. Simon Fountain and young Johnnie Stevens(15) took the score to 59 before Stevens departed. A mid order collapse then saw the score dive to 63-7 and the team in all sorts of trouble.  Simon Fountain was joined by Callum Mccgregor and with some big hitting especially by Fountain (63 including 6 sixes) the total reached 108 before both fell within a couple of overs. 16 was still required when the final pair of Will Lecomber and Chris Tee came together.  With diligent batting and a few scary moments they saw the team home with 13 overs to spare.  A really great game played in good spirit.

W* of the week : Alan Zanetti no wickets, another duck. and failing to hit the ball off the square this season !!!

Date : Sat. June 7th 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : Rotherwick ITW Venue : Rotherwick

On a firm, yet soft underneath, track, Littleton were invited to bat first against a Rotherwick attack which the previous week bowled Mottisfont out for 19, which was lucky considering we only had 9 players present.  Dave Guy fell cheaply, but Oli Sheldrake (29) and Nigel Dibben took the score along steadily.   Nigel Louth and Phil Cook fell after getting starts, but Paul Anscombe (32) continued the form of scoring knocks in the thirties, then progressing no further.  Derek Dibben joined son Nigel who eventually departed for a patient 52, and dad then hit one of the largest sixes you will see out of the ground.  The tailed added useful runs for a final total of 179-9.

In reply, tight bowling from Nigel Louth (12 overs 0-18) and Phil Cook kept the runs to a snails pace.  The introduction of Paul Anscombe's spin then caused the collapse of the Rotherwick side. He took 4 wickets for 27, including Buckingham for 27.  At the other end, Mark Dibben bowled superbly taking 2-31.  It should have been three wickets, but for the catch off a No Ball, but there lies a story (see champagne moment).  Phil Cook (2-14) took the final wicket leaving Rotherwick all out for 114.

Catches this season : Andy Walker - 4, Nigel Dibben - 4, Nigel Louth - 4, Dan White -2, Paul Anscombe - 3, Steve Fenner - 2, Oli Sheldrake - 1, Dave Guy - 1

Champagne Moment : A split decision on the committee.  Derek Dibbens enormous six, was just pipped by Phil Cook.  We mentioned the catch off a No Ball from Mark Dibben.  Phil took it at mid wicket, but had the piece of mind to notice the batsman out of his ground at the bowlers end.  His sharp throw left the stumps tumbled and the batsman run out much to the relief of Mark.

Dick of the Day : It is rare that the two contenders are from prior to the match, and the end of the match.  The Rotherwick umpire was in contention, when the final wicket fell to a catch from Dave Guy (maybe that sent him into shock), he then firmly announced the batsmen had not crossed, even though the game was finished !  But that did not beat the winner, Ray 'Rocky' Fenner, who was told he had won it prior to the start of the match and was totally bemused as to why until the Fines committee sat.  So we arrive with only 9 players, and not expecting to see the others for a while.  You desperately want to win the toss and bat.  So what is the last thing you would ever do before the toss up has been made.....tell the opposition you have only 9 men.....wrong....Rocky, almost immediately we arrive blags out to the opposition we only have 9 players.  Astoundingly their skipper, who claims he had not heard Ray like the rest of his team, put us in to bat.

Fines :  Nigel Dibben - 11, Derek Dibben - 14, Paul Anscombe - 19, Steve Fenner - 7, Oli Sheldrake - 24, Eliot Hayward - 10, Andy Walker - 17, Phil Cook - 15(0), Nigel Louth - 15, Mark Dibben - 14, Ray Fenner - 14(28), Dave Guy - 6, Graham Bird - 10 , Dan White - 5

Date : Sat. June 7th 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Tadley Hobos Venue : Littleton

The 2nds lost an exciting match which went to the wire against Tadley Hobos.  After being put in Paul Doswell(33) and Pete Arculus put on an excellent 85 for the first wicket, before Doswell was run out.  Arculus fell not long after for a well structured 52.  The middle order and tail offered little support to Ravi Anwar who batted sensibly for his 48 before being the last man out for 190.

In reply the Tadley openers started steadily although Will Lecomber bowled well without any luck at all.  Many shots fell just short of the fielders, or just cleared their heads.  The first wicket finally fell at 115, and the bowlers then took heart.  Tim McCormack took 3 wickets, but Tadley eventually scored the winning runs with one over and 4 wickets to spare.  A really good game of cricket.  A note of thanks to head groundsman, the silver fox Dibben for producing a belter of a track.

W* of the week : Tim McCormack for attempting to catch a skier. He ran in with confidence and zest...too far in fact, and the ball cleared his head by at least 10 feet !  There is another potential candidate also, but the culprit is down to one of two people. So far this season according to the Hampshire League website, P.Arquiles has scored 59, and P. Harkness 52, yet Pete Arculus has failed to register a 50 !  So, is it the person ringing in the result, or the Hampshire League results Secretary at fault ?

Date : Sat. June 14th 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : Sparsholt II Venue : Littleton

Skipper Anscombe won the toss and elected to bat. Dave Guy departed LBW to the first ball he received from Simon Straker.  Nigel Dibben (24) and Paul Anscombe (30) consolidated the innings, but the middle order of Nigel Louth, Jonny Stevens and Steve Fenner all failed to reach double figures.  Phil Cook (32) continued his good form with the bat, and then Dan White (33no, including one massive six) and Derek Dibben (19) added very valuable runs at the end leaving a final total of 206-8.  Daniels (2-51), Miles (2-35), and the ever youthful Richard Edwards (3-38) were the pick of the bowlers.  So where did the rest of the runs come from? 47 Extras, including 6 off one wide, which hit the slip fielder then ricocheted onto the helmet behind the 'keeper.

In reply, Gunyon and Dunford fell cheaply, both caught behind by Andy Walker off the bowling of Phil Cook(3-18), who then bowled Richard Edwards for a duck.   Nigel Louth tied up the other end, again bowling his 12 overs for a miserly 1-21. At 54-5, Littleton appeared in control, but the veterans Andy Heyes and Bob Selley had other ideas.  Dan White pulled up lame after only 3 overs having been smacked around the park, and Paul Anscombe was also taking abuse (though not as much as the gobby silver fox was giving the opposition!). Littleton were also given excellent spirit with some quality comments from the young Jonny Stevens.  So enter Graham Gale, eventually given a chance by the skipper.  He clean bowled Heyes (62) with a snorter, then caught and bowled Humphreys later in the over.  Anscombe(2-44) then dismissed rabbits Daniels and Miles, before Gale (3-34) bowled Selley (45) to seal victory with Sparsholt 153 all out.

Catches this season : Andy Walker - 6, Nigel Dibben - 4, Nigel Louth - 4, Dan White -2, Paul Anscombe - 3, Steve Fenner - 2, Oli Sheldrake - 1, Dave Guy - 1, Graham Gale - 1

Champagne Moment : Only two contenders really.  Dan Whites' massive six out of the ground followed by a second which almost hit the village hall.  But agreed that in the context of the match Graham Gales' dismissal of Andy Heyes (and the reaction it evoked) was a worthy winner.

Dick of the Day : Not much really, could have been our ex-Chairman AJ mistaking the new Chairman Squirt as Mark Dibben, but sorry to Jonny Stevens, on his 1st team debut, for the drinks incident. Trying to stack his empty glass into another, only to find it was a full one, squash everywhere!.

Fines :  Nigel Dibben - 20, Derek Dibben - 18, Paul Anscombe - 24, Steve Fenner - 20, Jonny Stevens - 14(28), Graham Gale - 9(0), Andy Walker - 19, Phil Cook - 22, Nigel Louth - 17, Mark Dibben - 5, Ray Fenner - 13, Dave Guy - 8, Dan White - 27, Oli Sheldrake - 5

Date : Sat. June 14th 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Compton & Chandlers Ford III Venue : Away

The 2nds lost their third match of the season with a very disappointing batting display against a young Compton side.  Winning the toss and batting first, Littleton were soon in trouble at 7-2.  A spirited stand of 67 between John Eacott and Ravi Anwar took the score to 74, before both were out in consecutive overs, Anwar making a patient 46.  Simon Fountain then struck a very quick 34 before being brilliantly caught at slip.  The last six wickets then fell for a dismal 33 runs leaving a final total of 143 all out.

In reply, Compton were in trouble at 14-2, but steady batting from the middle order saw them through with one over and five wickets to spare.  Each of the five bowlers took a wicket, and with another 20 runs on the board it may have been a different story.

W* of the week : Simon Fountain.  He should have run out their highest scorer after the first ball but missed the stumps from 2 feet !!!

Date : Sat. June 21st 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : Overton Venue : Away

As per usual, with Overton away, rain, and this time common sense prevailed and the game was called off at lunchtime.  Not sure what state some of the players would have been in after the 20/20 the night before.  Game over in 2 hours, so loads more drinking time elsewhere !

Catches this season : Andy Walker - 6, Nigel Dibben - 4, Nigel Louth - 4, Dan White -2, Paul Anscombe - 3, Steve Fenner - 2, Oli Sheldrake - 1, Dave Guy - 1, Graham Gale - 1

Champagne Moment : Nothing to consider from the team, but I reckon it should go to Angie (Mrs Inzy) for her noble gesture in driving two Nige's, Squirt and Dan to the ground saving the train fare and walk.

Dick of the Day : Obviously nothing from the day, but the lead up to the 20/20, and the night itself.  A few contenders (there are others I'm sure) for consideration at the next fines committee.

1) Oli Sheldrake for the late withdrawal and unused ticket, even though he knew he had a stag night

2) Nige Dibben for not knowing which station we walked from last year

3) Squirt, for the empty drinks cup incident at McDonalds

4) Cookie for his useless met updates

5) Inzy for his attempted use of the Rose Bowl vouchers

6) Dan for confusion around the Dibben brothers ages

7) Derek Dibben for deeming the wicket prep was more important than coming to the 20/20.

8) Paul Anscombe and Ray Fenner for cheering Sussex throughout

Fines :  None.....yet

Date : Sat. June 21st 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Liphook & Ripsley IV Venue : Littleton

The 2nds lost a very tight match to Liphook  After being put into bat Liphook were soon in trouble with Will Lecomber taking the first two wickets, but then a stand of 120 between Coombes & Harvey steadied the ship Steve Barrow broke the partnership with three wickets in an over, before Liphook finally reached 189-6. Will Lecomber bowled superbly without any luck taking 2-25 of his 12 overs, while Steve Barrow finished with excellent figures of 4-25.
In reply Littleton quickly lost the openers, before Simon Fountain(23) & Ravi Anwar took the score to 67 . Newcomer Steve Miles 32 helped Anwar to keep up with the run rate and sight of victory. Anwar was then out for a brilliant 75 and Miles followed soon after  Despite some lusty blows from Adam Watson Littleton fell 9 runs short of their target..

W* of the week : Ravi Anwar, dropped 2 catches and used 3 bats.  Nearly had to get some old bats out of the cupboard for him !!!!!!

Date : Sat. June 28th 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : St Cross III Venue : Away

With a depleted side, Littleton were invited to bat first against local rivals St Cross. Father and son Derek and Nigel Dibben opened up putting on 49 for the first wicket before Nigel fell for 17 (outscored by his Dad!).  Oli Sheldrake came in and put on 50 before Dibben senior fell for an excellent 43.  Nigel Louth didn't trouble the scorers much and Sheldrake then went for 39, still not able to build that big score.  Runs were always going to be hard to come by with the tight bowling of Martin Sanders (2-21), and the fact that from the 20th over there were between 6 and 8 fielders always on the boundary.  Paul Anscombe (15) and a superb knock of 39 from Stevie Fenner (including one four which split the TWO Mid-offs) saw a respectable total of 195-6.

In reply St Cross moved effortlessly to 57 before both Mark Newton(25) and Steve Postle(27) fell to Paul Anscombe and Nigel Louth respectively.  Enter the Nemesis, old Littleton boy Steve Oliphant who decided it was the day to get back at us.  He batted sweetly and with Montgomery (26) took the score to 147.  Mark Dibben was bowling superbly, and the introduction of Graham Gale stemmed the runs.  Gale removed Mills and Fowler in a superb spell with 8 overs going for only 19 runs.  24 were required off the final 3 overs, and Oliphant launched Dibben into the Green Jackets ground for 6.  Unphased, Dibben responded by bowling Oliphant(67) next ball with a jaffa.  Youngster Aldridge came in and blasted a 6 and 4 off Gale.....10 off the last 2 overs.  Enter Inzy Louth for his final over.  A maiden to Dickie Jones! The last over, and unfortunately for Gale despite everything being on the stumps, Fowler took another 6 and 4 off him to secure victory with one ball to spare.  A highly entertaining game of cricket though.

Catches this season : Andy Walker - 6, Nigel Dibben - 4, Nigel Louth - 4, Steve Fenner - 4, Oli Sheldrake - 3, Dan White -2, Paul Anscombe - 3,  Dave Guy - 1, Graham Gale - 1

Champagne Moment : None awarded.

Dick of the Day : Awarded to someone who was not even playing.  Dan White decided he had the time to come and watch for a while.  Totally confused, no players in white, ended up ringing in the evening wondering where we were?  Well definitely not at the Winchester College ground where he went to !!!

Fines :  Nigel Dibben - 14, Derek Dibben -16, Nigel Louth - 19, Oli Sheldrake - 18, Paul Anscombe 0 16, Steve Fenner - 10, Andy Walker - 9, Mark Dibben - 6, Jonny Stevens - 10, Graham Gale - 6, Dave Guy - 5, Ray Fenner - 7, Dan White - 8(16) - Phil Cook - 8, Dave Woodhead - 6

Date : Sat. June 28th 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Bentworth Venue : Littleton

A depleted Littleton team put up a very spirited bowling performance against unbeaten Bentworth restricting them to 152.  Tim McCormack took two early wickets. Alan Zanetti then bowled 10 overs also taking two wickets and only conceding 16 runs.  Paul Doswell then also took two wickets, and aided by some fine catching especially from wicketkeeper Rob Munroe, Bentworth were restricted to 152-8.
In reply openers Peter Arculus & Simon Fountain started well with an opening partnership of 31 but they both were out in consecutive overs. The rest of the team then collapsed and were reduced to 50-9. A spirited last wicket partnership between Nick Eacott (15no) and the worlds best number eleven, Chris Tee (10) saw the score to a near respectable 76 all out

W* of the week : The entire middle order of the batting

Date : Sat. July 5th 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : East Woodhay Venue : Littleton

On what proved to be a very lively track, Littleton were invited to bat first.  Williams proved very difficuly to play, and Nigels Dibben and Louth both fell for 2.  Paul Anscombe faired little better with 10, but John Eacott joined Dave Guy and steadied the ship taking the score to 85.  Eacott fell for a patient 17, and Stevie Fenner (12), Jonny Stevens (12no) and Dan White(14) added valuable runs with Guy.  Guy departed in the 38th over for 52 (record slow score for him I reckon), but an essential innings, with a final total of 143-7 looking defendable.

In reply East Woodhay struggled.  The track remain lively, and Nigel Louth bowled tightly as usual, including wickets and his 12 overs gave figures of 4-25.  Even tidier was Mark Dibben who bowled six overs for 7 runs (four of those off his last ball) before he pulled up [how many more injuries can he have?].  Graham Bird rolled back the years and ran out Neale with a direct hit on the stumps. Dave Guy took a stunning catch to remove the 'noisy' Williams off Louth, then Paul Anscombe and Dan White wanted to join in.  White (3-32) took his wickets off a short run up, two more catches to Squirt, and Anscombe (2-22) removed Lawrance.  Tristram Stockwell jangled the nerves a bit with a hard hitting 33, before he was superbly caught in the deep by Nigel Louth, leaving East Woodhay 96 all out.

Catches this season : Andy Walker - 8, Nigel Louth - 5, Nigel Dibben - 4, Steve Fenner - 4, Oli Sheldrake - 3, Dan White -2, Paul Anscombe - 3,  Dave Guy - 2, Graham Gale - 1

Champagne Moment : Not too much this week, but Dave Guy for his 50, and the catch that removed the 'gobby bugger'..

Dick of the Day : Even sadder, nothing really bad, but what the hell, we'll give it to AJ for his comment of "So the game finished early....who for ?"

Fines :  Dave Guy - 16(0), Nigel Dibben - 17, Nigel Louth - 25, Paul Anscombe - 25, Steve Fenner - 24, John Eacott - 16, Dan White - 22, Jonny Stevens - 18, Graham Bird - 14, Andy Walker - 11, Mark Dibben - 12, Ray Fenner - 11, Phil Cook - 6, Oli Sheldrake - 6, Derek Dibben - 6, Alan Jackson - 1(2).

Date : Sat. July 5th 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Silchester Venue : Away

The 2nds  returned to winning ways against Silchester. Silchester batting first on an absolute belter of a batting pitch progressed rapidly to a 100 for no wicket after only 19 overs. The opening partnership was finally broken by a fantastic catch by Steve Miles in the gully off Adam Watson. The run rate slowed as Chris Tee took control with his off spin. He bowled with great guile and flight taking 3 wickets Will Lecomber took 2 late wickets to restrict Silchester to 181-7.
In reply Littleton lost the openers fairly rapidly but Ravi Anwar & Simon Fountain progressed steadily before Fountain was caught on the boundary for 30 by a guy who had apparently dropped his previous 7 attempts!!! Steve Miles then joined Anwar and saw Littleton home with nearly 10 overs to spare. Anwar made an exquisite 75 no with his new bat which we think took about 3 willow trees to make!!! Miles chipped in with a very calm and controlled 30 no.

W* of the week : Skipper Peter Arculus who forgot to wait for Andy Clarke and dropped an absolute sitter

Date : Sat. July 12th 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : Denplan Mansbridge Venue : Littleton

Batting first, Denplan lost their opener bowled by Mark Dibben off the fourth ball.  Dan White at the other end bowled miserly with his 8 overs going for only 15 runs.  Wickets though were not falling until Phil Cook came into the attack. Costick(13), C. Hall(27) and K.Hall(36) all fell to Cook(3-27), and at 92-4 off 32 overs, it seemed that the score would be contained.  L. Wolfe had other ideas, he bludgeoned the attack, being especially severe on Graham Gale before falling to White near the end.  Wolfe finished with 65, and a very respectable total of 181-5.

In reply Dave Guy and Nigel Dibben struggled against the bowling, with Dibben scoring only 1 run off his 34 deliveries. After 2 stoppages for rain, and the score on 23-0 off 11 overs, the match was abandoned .

Catches this season : Andy Walker - 9, Nigel Louth - 5, Nigel Dibben - 4, Steve Fenner - 4, Oli Sheldrake - 3, Paul Anscombe - 3,  Dan White -2, Jonny Stevens -2, Dave Guy - 2, Graham Gale - 1, Mark Dibben - 1

Champagne Moment : Nothing worthy of the award.

Dick of the Day : Now, a classic, and for the 3rd week running to someone not even playing.  Nigel 'Inzy' Louth had backed out for his little daughters birthday, but still found time to bring her and Angie up to the game for a while.  He decided to have some fun and swing her around.  Unfortunately, he failed in the vital manoeuvre of actually keeping hold of her.  She was expecting the helicopter feeling, but not being propelled several yards like a missile landing painfully in a heap.  Inzy then seemed to fail to show any remorse, letting Angie do the cuddling, and off he went home sheepishly, and obviously not in Angies (or his daughters) best books.

Fines :  Dave Guy - 10, Nigel Dibben - 22, Nigel Louth - 12(24), Paul Anscombe - 20, Steve Fenner - 12, Dan White - 14, Jonny Stevens - 15, Graham Gale - 11, Andy Walker - 23, Mark Dibben - 14, Ray Fenner - 9, Phil Cook - 12, Oli Sheldrake - 23.

Date : Sat. July 12th 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : St Cross Symondians V Venue : Away

The 2nds won a hard fought contest against a spirited St Cross side. Batting first on a very wet wicket Littleton started cautiously with a first wicket stand of 56 between Steve Miles(21) and Pete Arculus off 22 overs, before  Miles out to veteran Mike Glogg. Ravi Anwar and Arculus(45) then took the score to 145.  Three quick wickets fell with Anwar making another solid 46. With some big hitting from Simon Fountain(41) and Tim McCormack the score reached 205-5 with 110 coming from the last 12 overs.
In reply St Cross were soon in trouble with Will Lecomber taking a wicket in his first over. But the next two batsmen were batting well and trying to keep up with the run rate as rained threatened.  Alan Zanetti(3-35) then accounted for these two in a tidy spell.  Bebb remained the danger man  but began to run out of partners . Will Lecomber(3-50) then chipped in with two late wickets including Bebb. Play was halted with just over two overs to go but Littleton won by 24 runs on on a faster run rate
.

W* of the week : Hard to find one this week, although The Webmaster would suggest Stevie Barrow for his 'bragging' interview heard on several Radio Stations for the Hampshire Fire Service winning some world rescue championship.  Saying that, lets give full praise, credit and applause for the wonderful work these guys do, and showing that us Brits are still the best at some things, which also happen to be the most important things in life.

Date : Sat. July 19th 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : Whitchurch Venue : Away

The skipper lost the toss and Littleton were inserted on what proved to be a very unpredictable and at times dangerous track (well in the first innings).  Dave Guy and Nigel Dibben made a slow and cautious start with only 22 runs off the first 16 overs.  Guy then had to retire hurt having been hit in the face from a ball that reared off a length.  Derek Dibben came in but then both he and Nigel perished in quick succession.  Nigel Louth though proved that with patience and timing runs could be achieved, the problem was, no one could stay with him.  All the middle to late order fell without scoring double figures, and support was only available when Guy returned towards the end.  Louth eventually fell for a superb 54.  Guy was bowled off the last ball with the total on 126-8, and had the distinction of facing both the first and last balls of the innings............for only 19 runs!

In reply, Whitchurch lost their opener early on bowled by Phil Cook.  Nigel Louth bowled tidily (12 overs 1-24) to hold up one end, but the batsmen slowly whittled away at the target, assisted by some poor fielding and a little luck.  The demons in the pitch though had generally vanished.  Dan White made little impact although Paul Anscombe bowled well without any luck.  Mark Dibben came on and took two wickets, but Whitchurch achieved their target comfortably with 5 wickets and 6 overs to spare.

Catches this season : Andy Walker - 10, Nigel Louth - 6, Nigel Dibben - 4, Steve Fenner - 4, Oli Sheldrake - 3, Paul Anscombe - 3,  Dan White -2, Jonny Stevens -2, Dave Guy - 2, Graham Gale - 1, Mark Dibben - 1

Champagne Moment : Nothing officially awarded due to the fines committee not sitting, but Nigel 'Inzy' Louths half century on a day when no one else could even hit the ball would probably secure it.

Dick of the Day : Again nothing awarded, nothing spectacular, but Squirt for the cumulative being late, later than Cookie, 2 drops and a missed stumping making him wish he never turned up would be a strong contender.

Fines :  To be awarded cumulatively as a roll over next week.

Date : Sat. July 19th 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Whitchurch II Venue : Littleton

The seconds completed a resounding victory over a depleted Whitchurch side to notch their 6th win of the season.
Batting first Littleton made a solid start with a first wicket partnership of 98 between Steve Miles (31) and skipper Pete Arculus.  Ravi Anwar then joined Arculus and the runs continued to flow with Anwar making a quickfire 48 before being bowled.  This was the 4th time that Anwar had fallen just short of 50 this season.  Birthday boy Arculus maintain the onslaught and made a very compact 80. The mayhem continued with Simon Fountain scoring 37no from 4 overs leaving a final total of 249-3.
In reply Whitchurch had no answer to the speed and bounce of Adam Watson who aided by some good catching took the first six wickets to fall with Steve (world champs) Barrow taking two catches (a miracle !!!!).  Nick Eacott also made his own history by taking his first wicket for the club. At the end, Whitchurch were all out for 90.

W* of the week : Rob Munroe who fielded 30 overs for the opposition dropped Peter Arculus and then had to cook the barbecue!!!!

Date : Sat. July 26th 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : Over Wallop Venue : Home

No report available yet as Webmaster has been away.  Basically, Over Wallop batted first, Nigel Louth (3-27), Phil Cook (3-8) and Paul Walker (2-53) took the wickets and Over Wallop were all out for 149.

In reply Nigel Dibben (22) got going but no one seemed to get any runs until show off skipper Paul Anscombe saved the day with 48no seeing victory through at 150-7 in the last over.

Catches this season : Andy Walker - 10, Nigel Louth - 6, Nigel Dibben - 4, Steve Fenner - 5, Oli Sheldrake - 3, Paul Anscombe - 3,  Dan White -2, Jonny Stevens -2, Dave Guy - 3, Graham Gale - 1, Mark Dibben - 1, Phil Cook - 1

Champagne Moment : TBA.

Dick of the Day : TBA.

Fines :  TBA.

Date : Sat. July 26th 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Burghclere II Venue : Away

Batting first Littleton made a steady start with M Val & skipper Peter Arculus. Ravi Anwar then joined Val to take the score to 88. In the latter half of the innings Val cut loose with support from Callum Mcgregor to take the score to 218 with 104 coming off the last 14 overs. Val making a superb 111 not out
In reply Burghclere had no answer to tight bowling from the Littleton bowlers. Will Lecomber 2-37, Chris Tee the spin king, 4-37 and Tim McCormack in his last game for the club before returning to Aus 3-20 saw Littleton home quite comfortably.

W* of the week : None advised

Date : Sat. Aug 2nd 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : Kingsclere Venue : Away

Struggling for a team this week, then saved from up above as the rain made the Kingsclere pitch unplayable.

Catches this season (as at 19th July) : Andy Walker - 10, Nigel Louth - 6, Nigel Dibben - 4, Steve Fenner - 4, Oli Sheldrake - 3, Paul Anscombe - 3,  Dan White -2, Jonny Stevens -2, Dave Guy - 2, Graham Gale - 1, Mark Dibben - 1

Champagne Moment : None.

Dick of the Day : None.

Fines :  TBA.

Date : Sat. Aug 2nd 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Farnham Venue : Home

After being asked to bat on a very damp wicket the Littleton were soon in trouble at 39-6 but a stand of 64 between stand in skipper Steve Barrow(54no) and Adam Watson(31) saw Littleton through to respectable 132 all out.

In reply Farnham were cruising at 55 for no wicket. A change of ends for Graham Gale did the trick. Bowling with swing and bounce Gale cut through the batting with 5-34. Assisted by part time bowler Simon Fountain (2-22) the tail disintegrated and Farnham were all out for 114.

Abundance of players this week, and then the rain sets in again, no game, only sympathy was with Cookie who was on teas, bet he is a fat(ter) git now after all those sani's !.

Catches this season (as at 19th July) : Andy Walker - 10, Nigel Louth - 6, Nigel Dibben - 4, Steve Fenner - 4, Oli Sheldrake - 3, Paul Anscombe - 3,  Dan White -2, Jonny Stevens -2, Dave Guy - 2, Graham Gale - 1, Mark Dibben - 1

Date : Sat. Aug 16th 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : Mottisfont Venue : Away

The skipper won the toss but had no alternative to bat.  Not realising that after the 1st August starts in this division were 1:30, he only had 6 players there at the time !  And a disaster it proved. Dave Guy, Nigel Dibben, Nigel Louth and Steve Fenner (more about that later) all fell for single figures leaving the score at 19-4. Skipper Paul Anscombe though played a superb innings of 44 to keep the score ticking over.  Dan White (23) and the ever youthful silver fox Derek Dibben (21, including to massive 6's) saw a final total of 131ao.

In reply, Phil Cook quickly dismissed Collins, and a ludicrous run out had Mottisfong at 54-4.  Fielder(38) and Slade then took the score along to 101, but then the collapse ensued.  Mark Dibben (2-34) took two vital wickets and was on hat-trick, and then Dan White (4-22) blitzed through the tail and another bizarre run out saw Slade(38) fall as the final wicket at 108 all out.

Catches this season : Andy Walker - 11, Nigel Louth - 6, Nigel Dibben - 5, Steve Fenner - 6, Oli Sheldrake - 3, Paul Anscombe - 3,  Dan White -2, Jonny Stevens -2, Dave Guy - 3, Graham Gale - 1, Mark Dibben - 1, Phil Cook - 1

Champagne Moment : Derek Dibben for stepping done the track and smashing the opening bowler quick for 6 out of the ground.

Dick of the Day : Steve Fenner, for the most stupid run out.  Hit it behind square, claims he didn't see the fielder (or maybe 2 of them), ran when it wasn't his call, then ended up on his arse half way down the track.

Fines :  Nigel Dibben 14, Mark Dibben 12, Steve Fenner 19(38), Phil Cook - 17, Nigel Louth - 12, Paul Walker - 14, Dan White - 13, Paul Anscombe - 14, Dave Guy - 14, Andy Walker - 12, Derek Dibben - 11(0).

Date : Sat. Aug 16th 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Midhurst II Venue : Home

Again put in on a damp wicket Littleton made a steady start, Skipper Peter Arculus taking 20 overs to score 9 which included a six off the 2nd over !! Ravi Anwar again batting superbly with his tree trunk of a bat scored a brilliant 77. It was left to Alan Zanetti (who?) and Adam Watson to take score to 204, sharing a stand of 60 in the last six overs. Zanetti made 24no his first score of double figures this season and Adam Watson 20.
In reply Midhurst were never in it. Will Lecomber 2-25 was his usual economical self. Chris Tee 3-25 who at one stage had 3-0 and Adam Watson 2-12 were the chief wicket takers, aided by some superb catching by Steve Miles the Littleton won at a canter.
.

W* of the week : Steve Barrow whose misfield led to a run out and his general athleticism in the field !!!!!!!!!!!

Date : Sat. Aug 23rd 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : Holybourne Venue : Home

The skipper lost the toss, and Holybourne decided to bat on a slow damp track.  It initially seemed a poor decision as Nigel Louth (12-3-22-2) removing the two openers and Dan White (12-5-24-0) kept the score to 47-2 off 24 overs. Mark Dibben suffered the 'wide yips', and the normally economical Phil Cook, Paul Walker and Paul Anscombe all started to get hit by Maddocks(21), Carey(20), Penn(29) and Parker.  This was not helped by a poor fielding display.  Cook (4-41) eventually came good and took four wickets, but the afternoon was summed up on the final ball as Cook dropped a catch in the deep and threw it over the boundary - lost bowling point for LWH, extra batting point for Holybourne, and a fifty for Parker.  A final total of 176-7 would not have been expected after 24 overs !

In reply Littleton never got to grips with the 'trundling' bowling of Holybourne, especially 14 year old spinner Jordan Taylor (3-28).  He came on in the 3rd over and removed Dave Guy, Derek Dibben and Steve Fenner.  Nigel Dibben had also departed early for single figures and after 20 overs Littleton were 65-5.  Andy Walker batting at No. 3 due to Nigel Louth being ill (what was in the tea then cookie!) anchored for 24 overs watching batsmen demise at the other end.  Paul Anscombe (18) and Paul Walker came and went and Squirt eventually departed with the score on 72-7 for a very very patient......8! .  Game over, Holybourne thought so.  Phil Cook hit a good 22 before becoming Rosati's 3rd Wicket at 109-8.  So the lame Nigel Louth (batting at 10) and Dan White had it all to do.  And they did, with a mixture of hard hitting and controlled nudges.  The total got ever nearer and with 2 overs to spare White hit the boundary to secure victory.  White (39no) and Louth (34no) put on 69 for the 9th wicket, a relief for 11th man Mark Dibben who according to the opposition would have come out batting with skid marks !

Catches this season : Andy Walker - 11, Nigel Louth - 6, Steve Fenner - 6, Nigel Dibben - 5, Oli Sheldrake - 3, Paul Anscombe - 3,  Dave Guy - 3, Dan White -2, Jonny Stevens -2, Phil Cook - 2, Graham Gale - 1, Mark Dibben - 1, Paul Walker - 1

Champagne Moment : The only outstanding efforts were from Inzy and Dan for their batting, but as it could not be determined which was the best, it was not awarded....Yea right, actually they had both amassed so many fines it was decided inappropriate to knock those off by awarding them C.M.

Dick of the Day : Not too much really....but Dan, you get it.  Getting upset by the 14 year old saying you batted like Geoff Boycott, then having a go at him, what's more you did it in front of his Dad who was playing as well.  Fair dues though, you did apologise after, but for fines it was an expensive moment of madness.

Fines :  Nigel Dibben - 12, Mark Dibben - 20, Steve Fenner - 16, Phil Cook - 33, Nigel Louth - 30, Paul Walker - 9, Dan White - 21(42), Paul Anscombe - 17, Dave Guy - 14, Andy Walker - 17, Derek Dibben - 20. Oli Sheldrake - 5, Ray Fenner - 6

Date : Sat. Aug 23rd 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Ramsdell II Venue : Away

The 2nds winning streak came to an abrupt end at Ramsdell with a hugely disappointing defeat. Ramsdell were asked to bat first and started steadily. The 1st wicket fell at 40. Steady bowling by Will Lecomber who only conceded 24 off his12 overs took the first 2 wickets. Alan Zanetti then chipped in with 2 more in an over. This left Adam Watson 3-30 and spin king Chris Tee 3-12 to mop up the tail and Ramsdell were all out for 107.
In reply M Val was out in the first over. Against a steady bowling attack runs were hard to come by. Peter Arculus made 21 and Simon Fountain tried to give some impetus to the innings but after a few big hits holed out out on the square leg boundary. It was left to Alan Zanetti 14 & Adam Watson14  to repair the damage. With steady batting they took the score to 94 but were both out in consecutive overs. For once the tail didn't wag and the last 5 wickets went for 6 runs and Littleton were all out for 96. Credit to the Ramsdell bowlers who stuck to their task really well.

W* of the week   Andy Clarke  Diving about everywhere then doing his calf in !!!

Date : Sat. Aug 30th 2008 Team : 1st Team Opposition : Idlers (Salisbury) Venue : Home

Against the league leaders, the skipper won the toss, and on a damp but drying track surprisingly decided to bat.  This then seemed to be a disastrous decision.  Nigel and Mark Dibben, Nigel Louth, Steve Fenner, Phil Cook, and Mike Hastie all fell in single figures, to the tight bowling of Nick Laurence and Martin Clemence.  After 31 overs the score was a poor 56-6.  Anchor man Dave Guy remained solid, and with Paul Anscombe(19) added a few more runs.  Guy eventually departed for 29 in the 37th over, and that left No.11 Graham Gale with the shot of his life, as he blasted Laurence (who finished with 6-27) back over his head, for the first six of his career.  The innings ended on a paltry 94 all out.

In reply, Idlers had no idea how to play the swing and pace of Nigel Louth and Phil Cook on a track that was only getting better for the batmen.  The innings collapsed, and apart from Impey(19) no one made double figures.  In fact the bowling of these two was so good, no one even managed to get an edge, 8 clean bowled, 1 LBW and 1 run out.  Louth finished with superb figures of 11 overs 6-33, and Cook 11 overs 3-17, and Idlers were all out for 59 in 22 overs !  What a great way to finish the season..........which was then completed in the Gaolhouse, O'Neills and Bar31 well past 3am in the morning.....photos to follow later, be warned, especially you Cookie !!

Champagne Moment : Inzy and Phil for their bowling had to be considered, but it went to Graham Gale for the astonishing six he hit off the opening quick bowler.

Dick of the Day : Sorry, Inzy.  Nigel Louth, who from the boundary shouted for play to be stopped as a bail was missing from the stumps.  He had not twigged the batsman was using it to mark his guard !!

Fines.  Final game, so they were all doubled :  Nigel Dibben - 44, Mark Dibben - 26, Steve Fenner - 34, Phil Cook - 42, Nigel Louth - 54(108)[club record], Graham Gale -22(0), Dan White - 24(and he wasn't even playing), Paul Anscombe - 38, Dave Guy - 48, Andy Walker - 30, Derek Dibben - 64. Oli Sheldrake - 14(not playing either), Mike Hastie - 30

So, who won the cumulative Dick Of The Season award?

A new method of calculation this year, not the grand total of fines, but the average number of fines per game attended (remembering Rocky doesn't actually play).  Please note the slight change to this system, points awarded when 'absent' from a game do not count as an attended game, they are rolled up, thus preventing the likes of Oli not playing and only getting 5 fines, but that counting IN his average !  This revised scoring method puts a whole new perspective on the winner.

Date : Sat. Aug 30th 2008 Team : 2nd Team Opposition : Rowledge II Venue : Away

The 2nds lost their last game of the season in a really close encounter with Rowledge by 1 wicket.

Losing the toss Littleton were asked to bat on a really strange looking wicket. They were soon in trouble at 28-3 but a stand of 61 between Steve Miles(32) and John Eacott(25) took the score to 89 . They were then out in consecutive overs. Simon Fountain joined skipper Peter Arculus and took the score to 150, Fountain with his usual big hitting dispatched the ball to all parts before being bowled around his legs was out for 39. This week the tail did wag late hitting from Alan Zanetti and a last wicket stand of 27 between Will Lecomber(12) and Chris Tee(15) took the final score to 202.
In reply Rowledge were soon in trouble at 33-3 but steady batting still kept them up with the run rate. Steve Barrow (3-56) accounted for three of the middle order and Chris Tee (2-20), then Adam Watson (2-48) saw Rowledge at 165 for 9, game in the bag. Unfortunately young D Luscombe had other ideas. He hit the unfortunate Barrow for 23 in one over and turned the game. Littleton could not quite find the ball to get him out . Enter Simon Fountain to the attack and with his first ball Luscombe smashed him over long on for six to secure Rowledge an unlikely victory. All in all a very satisfactory season .
