Short trips
I've lots more to add when I have time, particularly a 3 day tour of the lakes. For now here's a taster.
Wales
Malin and I have been biking in Wales twice, once in September, once in April. There was plenty of rain and we were riding in places we couldn't begin to pronounce but we had a great time nonetheless.Malin was pleased that there were lots of sheep.
We've stayed with our friends at Fort Belan. Not so convenient for the biking but a real life castle on the Menai Straits. Highly recommended for a group.
Machynlleth - we've ridden Mach 2 and Mach 3, both were excellent, though we have a slight preference for Mach 2. This is very exposed riding so make sure the weather is good.
Coed-y-Brenin - we've ridden the Red Bull and mbr trails. Despite being just down the road from Machynlleth, this is entirely different riding - all weather forest singletrack. Great fun even in the pouring rain.
Lake Vyrnwy - it snowed and we got lost. The dam at the start is impressive but the riding didn't really live up to the other Wales sites. Nice place though.
See Mountain Biking Wales for more biking info.
The Lakes
It rains here too, hence the lakes, but we've been lucky on our trips. We've been twice, one staying in Ambleside (Meadowbank B&B - excellent and bike friendly). The other on a 3 day tour of the whole Lake district.
