329. William BLYTH
was born about 1844 in Virley, Essex. He was baptised on 11 Aug 1844 in Virley,
Essex. He was the Executor to the Will of his father, Samuel Blyth, on 31 Aug
1874. He was the Executor to the Will of his brother, Robert Blyth, on 1 Aug
1877. He inherrited Sturgeons Farm, Writtle, from his father on 7 May 1881.
In addition to the farm William was also to receive pieces of land called 'Broom
Mead', 'Broom Field', 'Lower Cudhams' and part of 'Upper Cudhams'. The residue
of his fathers estate was to be disposed of. The proceeds would pay any outstanding
debts and the remainder of the money was to be split equally between William
and his brothers and sisters. In a 3rd Codicil, written following the death of
his mother, William was left a silver gravy spoon, 4 table spoons, 8 desert spoons,
2 gravey ladels, a sugar sifter, a pearl handeled knife, sugar tongs, 4 salt
spoons, 2 silver salt spoons, 2 plated knife rests, an orange knife and a fish
slice. He was a Farmer on the 1881 Census in Writtle, Essex. 1881 Census: William
was farming Sturgeons Farm, Writtle. He had 500 acres and employed 12 men and
6 boys.
1891 Census: William is shown as a Farmer.
1901 Census: William is still farming Sturgeons Farm.
1902 Kelly's Directory lists, under the commercial section for Writtle, William
Blyth, farmer & landowner, Sturgeons Farm. 1861 Census: William, 16, was
living at Sturgeons Farm, Writtle with his parents.
1881 Census: William, 36, was living at Sturgeons Farm, Writtle with his wife
and 3 children. His father was also with them.
1891 Census: William, 47, was living with his wife and 4 children at Sturgeons
Farm, Writtle. They have 3 domestic servants with them.
1901 Census: William, 56, was living with his wife and 3 of his children at Sturgeons
Farm, Writtle. They had a servant living with them. He was married to Alice
Ann RUTTER (daughter of James RUTTER and
Ann UNKNOWN) between 1 Oct 1873 and 31 Dec 1873 in Kensington District, London.
Alice Ann RUTTER was born about 1846 in Roxwell, Essex. She died
