325. Catherine BLYTH
was born in 1834 in Virley, Essex. She inherrited some rings from her grandmother,
Frances Blyth, on 31 Jan 1860. She inherrited farm and lands in West Bergholt
from her father on 7 May 1881. Catherine was to receive the use of freehold
and copyhold farm and land called 'Tyles' and 'Coombs' together with land at
Bergholt Heath. This was currently occupied by Benjamin Partridge. If Catherine
should die the property was to go to her fathers trustees for them to dispose
of and the proceeds of the sale were to be split equally between Catherines children
at their ages of 21. The residue of her fathers estate was to be disposed of.
The proceeds would pay any outstanding debts and the remainder of the money was
to be split equally between Catherine and her brothers and sisters. Catherines
share was to be invested and she was to receive the annual income. After her
death the capital was to be divided between her children when they reached 21
years. In a 3rd Codicil to the Will, written following the death of her mother,
Catherine was to share with her sisters all her fathers clothes, remainder of
the plated articles, jewels, china, trinkets, household effects and carriages
and harnesses. 1851 Census: Catherine, 17, single, was living with her parents
at Witham Road, Cressing.
1861 Census: Catherine, 27, was living with her husband and 4 children in Peldon.
1881 Census: Catherine, 47, was living with her husband and 4 children at Brick
House, Gt Wigborough.
1901 Census: Catherine, 67, widowed, was living in Bower Hall, West Mersea with
her daughter. They had a domestic servant, Jessie E Harvey, living with them.
She was married to Charles HARVEY on 8 Apr 1856 in Writtle, Essex. Charles,
son of Mr Harvey of Tiptree. Catherine, eldest daughter of Samuel Blyth of Sturgeons
Farm, Writtle. Charles HARVEY was born about 1821
in Tolleshunt D'Arcy, Essex. He was a Farmer as per 1881 Census in Great Wigborough,
Essex. Nov 1859: Charles was a Farmer in Peldon.
1861 Census: Charles was shown as a Corn Merchant.
1881 Census: Charles was farming 200 acres. He employed 7 men and 2 boys. Mar
1857: Charles and family were living in Layer Marney.
Nov 1859: Charles and family had moved to Peldon.
1861 Census: Charles, 39, was living with his wife and 4 children in Peldon.
They had 2 house servants and a groom living with them.
1881 Census: Charles, 62, was living with his wife and 4 children at Brick House,
Great Wigborough. They had 2 servants living with them. Catherine BLYTH and
