102. Daniel BLYTH was baptised on 21 Sep 1753 in Elmstead, Essex. He inherrited land from his Great Uncle, Isaac Blyth, on 23 Jun 1768 in Greenstead, Essex. "I Give and Devise unto my two Great Nephews Daniel Blyth and William Blyth (Sons of my Nephew Daniel Blyth) all that my Barn with Eighteen Acres of Lands more or less with the Rights thereunto belonging situate lying and being in Grinstead in the said County of Essex now in the Occupation of William _____ or his Assigns the Barn and upper Land I Give unto my said Great Nephew Daniel Blyth and the Low Land and Marshes unto his said Brother William Blyth". He was a Farmer in Jan 1777 in Wivenhoe, Essex. He was the Executor to the Will of his father, Daniel Blyth, on 14 Oct 1779. He inherrited land and property in Elmstead from his father on 10 Aug 1782. Daniel was left land and property known as Goslings, it was about 30 acres in size. From the profits of this land he has to pay his mother a yearly sum of £10.

Daniels father instructed that an inventory of all his leases held at his death, his stocks, implements and utensils in farming and husbandry also all goods chattels, ready money, debts and securities, plate, china, household goods, household furniture and stocks in public funds. After his mother had chosen the items she wanted, the legacies were paid and all his fathers outstanding debts were paid Daniel was to receive the residue. He signed a will on 13 Nov 1787. When Daniel wrote his Will he was living in St Leonards, Colchester. He was buried on 13 Jun 1799 in St Leonards, Colchester, Essex. His will was proved on 1 Aug 1799 in London. 1785: Daniel Blyth applied to the Borough of Colchester to discharge his apprentice, Benjamin Chamberlain, as he had "frequently behaved in a very disorderly mannor and hath often absonted himself from the service of his Master". This request was granted on the 4th July. The document shows that Daniel was formerly from Colchester, now living in Elmstead. His occupation was shown as Mariner.

From Christmas to Easter 1804 Daniel paid the following rates for property and land in Wivenhoe: Rentals Coal Yard 5/-, Warehouse 2/-, Marsh 7/10. Total rent for the combined: £ 1/16/3. In June 1804 his Warehouse and Marsh were valued at £ 29/-/-.

He obtained a marriage license on 17 Jan 1777. Daniel, single, a farmer from Wivenhoe & Humphrey Hazleton (Anns father), a yeoman from Berechurch, Colchester paid a bond of £200. Ann, 18, was a spinster, she was living in St Leonards, Colchester. He was married to Ann Oathwaite HAZELTON (daughter of Humphrey HAZELTON) on 21 Jan 1777 in St Leonards, Colchester, Essex. Ann Oathwaite HAZELTON was born about 1759. She was the Executor to the Will of her husband, Daniel Blyth on 13 Nov 1787. She signed a will on 5 Jun 1814. She died on 23 Aug 1814. She was buried on 31 Aug 1814 in St Leonards, Colchester, Essex. Burial records state Ann as aged 55, from Elmstead, Essex. Her will was proved on 13 Jan 1815. Daniel BLYTH and Ann Oathwaite HAZELTON had the following children:

237 iii. Thomas Foakes BLYTH was baptised on 19 Nov 1782 in Elmstead, Essex. He died in 1843 in Essex.

239 v. William BLYTH was born on 2 Nov 1785 in Essex. He was baptised on 25 Jan 1786 in Elmstead, Essex.
240 vi. Samuel BLYTH was baptised on 30 Nov 1787 in St Leonards, Colchester, Essex. He died before Aug 1869. He was a Lt. Col. in the 49th Infantry Regiment. 1820 Army List entry: 28 Apr 1813 - Samuel was promoted to Lieutenant in the 49th Regiment of Foot (or The Princess Charlotte of Wales or The Hertfordshire).
1823 Army List entry: shows Samuels rank as Ensign. He had been placed on half pay 10 Jan 1821.
1826 Army List entry: shows his rank as Lieutenant in the 49th Regiment.
1831 Army List entry: Samuel is ranked as Captain. He was promoted 25 Apr 1828.
1833 Army List entry: as 1831. Also Ensigns and placed on half pay 10 Jan 1821.
Later lists show Bombay - Depot Colchester.
1839 Army List entry: as above and Samuel was promoted to the rank of Major from 22 Nov 1836.
The above ranks are shown as within the Regiment. The1842 Army List entry shows the same rank in the 'Army' from 26 May 1841.
The 1843 List does not mention Samuel.
241 vii. Ann Oathwaite BLYTH was born about 1789 in Elmstead, Essex. She was baptised in Jun 1789 in St Leonards, Colchester, Essex. She was the Executor to the Will of Elizabeth Blyth on 4 Jan 1817. Ann received £30 for her time and trouble. She inherrited £50 from her Aunt, Margaret Blyth on 14 Jul 1843. She inherrited £100 from her cousin Carrington Wilson Blyth on 3 Feb 1848. She died on 16 Aug 1869 in Thorpe-le-Soken, Essex. Entry in the West Suffolk & East Essex Free Press read '... in her 81st year, Ann Oathwaite Blyth eldest daughter of the late Daniel Blyth Esq., formerly of Elmstead, and also late of St Leonards Colchester, and sister of the late Lt. Col. Samuel Blyth of the 49th Regiment of Infantry.' She was buried on 20 Aug 1869 in Thorpe-le-Soken, Essex. Burial records show Ann to have been 80 at time of death. Died a spinster. She was an Annuitant as per 1851 Census. 1851 Census: Ann, 60, was at Hall Farm, Thorpe-le-Soken. She was living alone.
1861 Census: Ann, 71, was a lodger at Hall Farm, Thorpe le Soken. She was living with George and Elizabeth Field.
242 viii. Elizabeth Dorothy BLYTH was born on 24 Jul 1790 in St Leonards, Colchester, Essex. She was baptised on 20 Nov 1793 in St Leonards, Colchester, Essex. Elizabeth was privately baptised at an earlier date, she was received into the church November 1793.
243 ix. Margaret Sophia BLYTH was born in Jul 1793 in Colchester, Essex. She was baptised on 20 Nov 1793 in St Leonards, Colchester, Essex. She inherrited £10 from her cousin, Elizabeth Blyth on 30 Aug 1824. She inherrited £50 from her Aunt, Margaret Blyth on 14 Jul 1843.
