Both were single and of full age. They were married by Licence. Both signed the

and Susan Alston. Edward HOLTON was born in 1833

From 'Mount Bures - Its Land and Its People' by I McMaster and K Evans: Edward
and his family were the fifth tenants of The Hall in Mount Bures from 1875 -
1899. Edward and Hannah attended the Congregational church in Nayland and the
local C of E farmers were not pleased to have him as a tenant at the Hall. Edward
was one of the first, if not the first, to set up a apiary locally. He was a
very handsome, well built and determined man. When the landlord of the Colchester
market decided to charge for admission Edward shattered the gate by walking straight
through it in protest. Edward, together with Cornelius Hitchcock, tried to set
up a coffee shop to discourage the farm labourers from drinking beer - this wasn't
sucessful! In 1899 Edward became bankrupt - 2 possible reasons were difficulties
with drainage on the land and the out break of foot and mouth disease. The latter
he responded to by buying more cattle. The family moved to Sudbury where Edward
died in 1899.
