If you are travelling from the UK the best way to fly is direct from either Gatwick or Stanstead to Tallinn (capital of Estonia). Estonian Air operate from Gatwick and EasyJet from Stanstead. Gatwick flights currently run daily from Sunday to Friday, leaving at 18:00 and arriving in Tallinn at 22:50. The flight time is 2 Hours 50 minutes but Estonia is two hours ahead of us. Stanstead flights currently run daily, leaving at 06:45 and arriving in Tallinn at 12:00 noon. Tallinn Old Town is not to be missed, so if it's your first visit to Estonia we recommend you plan some time to explore the capital before moving on. There are various options to reach Kuressaare from Tallinn. The cheapest, and best in our view, is to take the bus. It only costs about £7 per person and includes the ferry crossing to Saaremaa. However, if you are in a rush to arrive at our apartment (and we can understand that) the quickest way is to take an internal flight from Tallinn to Kuressaare. This costs about £35 per person return, so is still very good value. You could hire a car and drive yourself. However, unless you want to tour the whole country, it's much better to hire a car from Kuressaare to explore the island from your apartment base. If you feel REALLY lazy and don't need to worry about the cost (although you can be assured it will be reasonable, at least by UK standards), why not take a taxi (we had a stretched limo!!).
