Draw this simple picture.

Paint the sky. Paint the cloud shapes

with indian yellow and the

horizon. Paint cobalt blue

around the clouds. Cloud shadows

are painted in payne's grey. With a tissue

remove paint from the cottage smoke

train.

Weak mix of ultramarine and vandyke brown

for the distant hills.  Indian yellow and hookers

green for the nearer hill.  Use a very weak mix in

area of the cottage smoke.

Wet the lower hill and land nearest to the

river and sea. Put in cadmium yellow for

the beach areas. Blend in indian yellow

and yellow green (variegated wash) to

give the rolling grasslands texture.

Use a very weak mix in

area of the cottage smoke.

Paint the trees behind the house vary

the greens used adding touches of blues or

browns to give shape to the foliage.

Use payne's grey and brown to put

shadows under the trees and hedge.

 Mix ultramarine and vandyke brown

for the line of fir trees on the right.

Give more detail to the trees on the

left.   Paint a little  yellow ochre at

the base of the trees.

Paint in the house.  Yellow ochre walls in

layers to build up the shadows. Payne's

grey roof with a touch of hookers green

at the base.  Payne's grey and vandyke

brown for the windows and doors.

The river and sea have been given a

very light touch of cobalt blue and

indian yellow, a lot of white has been

left. A thin line of vandyke brown

on some of the river bank.

Wet in wet on the foreground has

been painted with cadmium yellow,

yellow green and indian yellow.

The shadow of the smoke is a

weak payne's grey.

With the comber brush, and a selection of

greens, browns and payne's grey, the near

grass was put in.  The foreground area was

textured with a few light washes.

(The grass effect can also be achieved

through pinching the end of a round brush

to spread out the brush hairs.)
