Large, nodding umbels of cream flowers, flushed pink or purplish red, and tinted green at the base. Seed pods become erect as flowers fade. Works well at the front of the border, where other plants can be seen though its stems. Seed heads good for drying. 80cm

Pistacia lentiscus
Shrub with handsome, leathery dark green foliage tinged with deep burgundy. Small reddish flowers are followed by red berries on mature plants. Prefers a sheltered spot to survive outside so best grown as a specimen plant in a pot or tub. Evidently a mastic to use as chewing gum and also to flavour Turkish Delight is obtained from the bark but you may need a forest of them if you are thinking of going into sweet production!
