CRAAm 2010 Website up and running!

Visit the site at www.craam.co.uk

I've launched our CRAAm website this weekend. We've set it up to let you know all about our mission to cycle across the United States in order to raise £50,000 for Cancer and Leukaemia Research.

In order to achieve our target, our team of 6 riders intend to cycle form Los Angeles in California to Atlantic City, Georgia, a distance of 3,000 miles in 10 days. This is achieved by a non stop relay, each rider taking turns to cycle, navigate, drive the support vehicle, rest and eat.

We intend to start our trip by flying out to L.A. on Friday 26th March 2010. From there we'll pick up the support vehicle and drive down to Oceanside California. After preparing the vehicle and stocking up on supplies we'll get a good nights sleep before setting off the next morning heading east across the States.

The next 10 days see's our intrepid team of riders on their non-stop schedule of riding, eating, navigating, driving and sleeping before ending up on the East coast in Atlantic City, Georgia on Tuesday April 6th.

By the time we've finished, each rider will have cycled over 500 miles each and had no more than 2 hours sleep at any one time. In total, we will have cycled over 3,000 miles and with your help, hopefully raised £50,000 to be split equally between Cancer and Leukaemia Research.

Olivia Allen...Fastest Girl in the School!

3rd from the right Olivia off to a flying start!

Olivia powers through to a dip finish!

Mummies little winner!

Olivia managed to reach the final of the year 2 girls race at St. Thomas' sports day last week and then went on to win and become the fastest girl in the school! Olivia's proud mum, Sarah Allen (looking good, aged 42) was quoted as saying, "I'm dead chuffed, it was touch and go from the start, the other girls pushed her all the way." The winners father was unavailable for comment at the time due to being at work but he was later quoted as saying, " I'm so proud, us 'Allens' never win races like this cos we're all biffers but we starve Livvy to save money and keep her light on her toes". He is currently helping the NSPCC with their inquiries.

Dad sets sail one last time...

On Fathers day this year we scattered my fathers ashes under the Tamar bridge in Devon. It was Dads last wish to have is ashes scattered under the bridge that was the finish line of the rowing races he took part in whilst in the Royal Navy.

Thank You!

Thanks to your incredible support we manage to raise over £1,000 for the British Heart Foundation and in memory of my Dad.

Huge thanks also go to my mates (Wiggy, James, Tony, Andy and Stu) who made the trip with me and put up with my very slow pace all the way from Newcastle to Edinburgh, maybe next time I'll train harder and leave the kitchen sink at home.

50% of the way there...£275 and counting...

Thanks to the generous support from work colleagues, family and friends my fundraising total has reached £275 , which is just over half way to my £500 target.

As well as my fundraising page I've also got two signed sport goods up for auction.

First is a Manchester United shirt which has been signed by several players including Cristian Ronaldo, Wes Brown, Paul Scholes and others and has a certificate of authenticity from Manchester United themselves.

The second is a Maclaren Mercedes baseball cap signed by Lewis Hamilton at Monaco last week before his triumphant win.

If you would like to bid on either item, please mail me at emailme@spencerallen.co.uk and let me know how much you would like to bid. The highest bid at close of play on June 10th will win the item.

Good luck and thanks for all your support.

My Dad - 1950 - HMS Vanguard

April 2008

I'm cycling for in Memory of my Dad and for the British Heart Foundation.

Having lost my father to a heart attack recently, I thought that I'd dedicate my planned cycle from Newcastle to Edinburgh in June to him and raise some money for the British Heart Foundation.

A group of friends of mine planned to cycle the 210 mile in 3 days (carrying all our own kit) for fun! An average of 70 miles per day did not, at first, sound like a 'fun' to do but it makes more sense with the passing of my father. Dad was selected, through testing, to be part of the crew on the Royal Yacht Britannia in the 1950's. The Yacht is now moored up in Edinburgh where we'll finish our cycle ride and so I can pay my respects to the Yacht on which Dad spent some of his happiest times.

In Loving Memory of William John Allen 1933 - 2008

On March 21st 2008, my Dad passed away peacefully at Royal Berkshire Hospital after a long period of ill health. He is sorely missed by those of us who loved him.

Bill or Willy. Jacko or Johnny. Granddad or Pops. Dad or Derby. By whatever name we knew him, we all knew a man of immense loyalty and courage, enormous generosity, with a big heart filled with love for his family. His passing has left a huge void in our lives, but we can be thankful that we are able to fill it with our fond memories of him. In the words of one of his favorite country songs; '….here lies a BIG, BIG man….BIG JOHN.'

I LOVE MY POPS.

WE ALL LOVE MY POPS. HE WAS A FANTASTIC FRIEND AND A BRILLIANT GRANDAD TOO, THAT WAS WHY HE WAS AN EXCELLENT MAN.

HE LOVED HIS FAMILY AND THAT IS WHY I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIM, LIKE ALL GRANDPARENTS SHOULD BE REMEMBERED.

Bathroom Finished and Now Work Starts On Our New Conservatory...

We came back from Mexico to a new bathroom fitted by Guy Badley, a local builder I'd have no problem in recommending. At last we can have a bath, only ever having had a shower fitted before. Shortly after our return, Guy started work on our conservatory. I had to remove the decking I laid just 2 years before and he laid a base down for the conservatory.

As you can see, I pressed Olivia in to service and got her to help move the mounds of earth one weekend. Guy just needs to finish the dwarf wall before the conservatory is ready to fit. More pictures and updates to follow.....

At last a bath!

This is where it's going.

Happy New Year.... our holiday in Mexico where Jen and Tone are married...at last!

Well they made it and no hurricane to stop them this time!

Thanks to hurricane Dean leaving us back in the UK in September, Jen and Tone had to rearrange their wedding plans.

All 17 of us flew out on Christmas day for a fantastic 2 weeks in Mexico on the Mayan Riviera.

Thanks to all the staff at the Gran Bahia Principe for making us feel very welcome.

We had a fantastic New Years and the wedding went off without a hitch (almost). The girls got to swim with the dolphins and we did a lot of snorkeling amongst brightly coloured fish.

Now we're back in the cold and damp UK but at least we have our fading tans and the pictures below to remember Mexico!

Halo 3 Legendary Edition

I managed to get hold of the much converted Legendary Edition of the worlds greatest online FPS at midnight on September 25th. Having taken the day off, I set about the single player campaign on normal level and by the 29th had finished the fight! It's an awesome game, especially when you play online in the matchmaking setup.

Not long now!

It's nearly upon us, the day every 360 owner has been waiting for...Halo 3 release day! This has been touted as the biggest release in games history as Master Chief has his first and final outing on the Xbox 360.

Having finished the previous 2 games on the old Xbox sometime ago, I have been waiting what seems like and is years to finish the fight. I've managed to get hold of the Limited Legendary Edition and will be picking it up at 1 minute past midnight on Wednesday 26th, the UK release date. I've managed to get the following day off so as to get a headstart on those that have to work! So if you're trying to get hold of me after Tuesday, you know what I'm up to!

Connie Fisher Signs for the Allens!

All smiles at the Sound of Music

It was Georgia's special birthday treat to see the Sound of Music at the London Palladium last weekend. The day was made perfect by us 'bumping' in to Connie Fisher, the star of the show, outside the stage door before the matinee performance. Connie was fantastic and signed the girls programmes. We found out that Georgia and Connie's birthdays are only a week apart! It really made our trip to London special.

The show was brilliant, we all said the best performance we had seen.

A BIG thank you to Connie. Check out her website at www.conniefisher.co.uk

Rhodes 2007 - Our rearranged holiday!

We eventually got away for a week in the Rodos Maris Hotel in Rhodes.

Thanks to hurricane Dean leaving us back in the UK instead of sunning ourselves in Mexico, we had to look around for some summer sun. Thanks to Jen's hard work we ended up in the Hotel Rodos Maris in Kiotari, Rhodes.

All 17 of us enjoyed a fantastic week with temperatures in the 40's and everything fully inclusive.

Thanks to all the staff at the resort for making us feel very welcome.

Meanwhile, we still got to sort out the trip to Cancun and the postponed wedding of Jen and Tone. Still, that means we can have another set of hen and stag do's!

Hurricane Dean Blows Out our Holiday!

Dean's predicted path...Jamaica today, downtown Cancun on Tuesday Cat5!

Our family holiday to Cancun lays in tatters today (Sunday August 19th) thanks to the imminent arrival of hurricane Dean, due to hit downtown Cancun on Tuesday morning. Thomas Cook confirmed that although our flight would be leaving Gatwick this morning, it was only flying out to bring people back and so would be empty.

Everyone who was going is devastated, not just for missing the holiday but for not being able to attend the now delayed wedding of Jen and Tone.

We still want to go out to Mexico but we're going to see what the impact of Dean is before making a decision as to when.

Vodafone Nearly Sunk as the Water Comes Flooding In!

That's my desk through the window, under water!

No chance of getting my car through this!

Right lads, swim for it!

Friday July 20th it started to rain. It rained some more and kept raining. Little did we know at Vodafone HQ, just how much rain would fall that morning. As the day progressed water poured off the surrounding countryside and in to the landscaped lakes that are the heart of Vodafone's UK HQ. Normally all the water would flow out in to the river Lambourne but the straw from the surrounding fields blocked up the outflow pipes and the water started rising. By noon it the lakes had burst their banks and the water was up to the windows. A half hour or so later and the water started coming in to our building. We were given the order to abandon ship and grabbed our laptops and waded out of the building to safety. Amazingly no-one was hurt and despite the massive flooding we were back working on Monday - that's wireless communications for you!

Now the drug bust tour has finished we can't wait to see the Tour of Britain's first stage which passes very close to home. White Hill here we come!
