I named my way of painting from observation as “Experiential Realism”, meaning that the realism of the painting is modified by the way that I experience the scene. This developed from my awareness of how perceptions of external reality are modified by what goes on inside the mind, that which I would think of as a person’s “Internal Reality”.
The deeper exploration of my own Internal Reality really only started after I left Art College and this was the subject of almost all of my paintings until relatively recently. However, Internal and External Realities cannot really be separated, each tempers and changes the other.
Computers have fascinated since my own school days (when there was no such thing as a personal computer), so when usable graphics programs become readily available, I became an enthusiastic user - particularly because of their educational applications.
Sculpture is not my main oeuvre, but is an important extension of my interests. However, my use of photography is primarily as a convenient method of recording and as a tool to support the rest of my work. The photographs included here are simply an expression of my visual interests.
