Liberation of Europe: Allied Bombers Attack Pas de Calais Target
This picture is one of a series showing the results of Allied air attacks on a large constructional work in the Pas de Calais area, similar to the large site recently captured in the Cherbourg Peninsular. The target consisted of a large concrete structure and a number of auxiliary buildings probably associated with it. These and other similar sites have been attack from time to time by aircraft of the RAF Bomber Command and US Army Air Forces. Pictures 4 and 5 show the result of the se attacks, and in particular the concentrated attack by RAF Bomber command on June 22nd 1944. Photo 4 shows: Birds eye picture of the whole are taken after the attacks on the site by aircraft of the US Army Air Forces and the very heavy attack by RAF bomber Command on June 22nd 1944.
The area is pock-marked by hundreds of bomb crates. Covering the ground like fallen apple blossom.
