Apologies for the lack of updates, but I
had to get my computer repaired after it went bang when I came back off
holiday! Since the last update, we've had a 2-2 draw with
table-topping Shadwell with goals from Ali Macleod and Mark Green, a 2-1
victory over last year's second division champions, Sharks, goals coming
from Mark Green and Stanley Ross. Next up was Young Guns, who scored
with the last kick of the ball to prevent an Ashes victory, with the game
finishing 3-3, goals from Stalney Ross (2) and David Stockan. We got
our second win of the season last week with a stunning comeback after
going 3-1 down, to eventually win the game 7-3, with goals coming from Ali
Macleod and a brace each from Stanley Ross, Mark Green and David Stockan.

Ashes took on Naver Utd on Thursday night
in our second game of the sevens season looking to get our first points
on the board. Naver took the lead early in the first half when Mark
Mckenzie, unaware (like most of our players it turns out!) that the ball
is live as soon as it touches the ground for a by-kick, placed the ball on
the ground, only for Naver to steal in and knock the ball into the open
net. Naver then went two nil up early in the second half with a goal
scored directly from a kick-in, as the referee wrongly thought the ball
had deflected off one of the other players. Ashes came back into the
game with a vengeance after this, playing some good football, and
eventually got one back with an excellent strike from youngster Chris Wann.
We then levelled the scores with another good goal from Alan Struthers.
Both teams had chances to take the three points late in the game, but the
game finished 2-2.

We had our annual end of season player of
the year dinner, which was held in the Weigh Inn, and despite a poor
turnout, a great night was had by all. A big thank you to the Weigh
Inn staff for providing us with excellent food. The prize winners on

Ashes kicked off the sevens league season
on Thursday night with a narrow 3-2 defeat at the hands of Swifts.
Swifts went two nil up in the first half with goals from Colin MacDonald
and Anson Robertson, but Ashes got themselves back on level terms before
half time with goals from Stanley Ross and Paul Malone. The second
half was a much tighter affair with chances at a premium, but Swifts
nabbed the three points with a deflected goal in the last minute of the
game.

The last few weeks have seen a lot of changes to the Ashes with Ian Nicol
vacating the manager's post due to work commitments in Aberdeen. We
now have a new manager in place, George Mckenzie, who also manages a Thurso under 16s club. This has proved to be very useful, as we have
signed 4 very promising 15 year-olds.
