Shooting
Many of our cadets enjoy shooting. Before a cadet can fire a target rifle, they must firstly undertake a full course of training and pass a personal Weapons Handling Test. Once they reach this standard, they will be allowed to take part in a range practice and fire the weapon. All range practices are supervised by qualified staff.
At the begining, cadets will be taught to fire a grouping practice. They will fire five shots onto a paper target, and try to place all of their shots into the smallest group possible. Once this practice has been learnt, cadets will then be shown how to fire a 'rapid' or a 'snap' practice. In a rapid practice, all five shots must be fired as quickly as possible!
There are badges awarded for each stage of marksmanship training. During 2006, nine marksmanship badges were gained by cadets from our Squadron.
Our best cadets were then selected for the Squadron's Shooting Team. During 2006 the team took part in two major competitions. The results are listed below:
4th place in the L98 full-bore rifle competition.
2nd place in the No8 small-bore rifle competition.
