In 1989, when the announcement to build a high speed railway from London to the Channel Tunnel at Cheriton was made I decided to photograph the construction of just the Medway Crossing. This was to be a viaduct, about 2 miles (3.2km) long, carrying the line over the river Medway in Kent between Burham Church and the village of Holborough. Later the railway was realigned, close to the M2 motorway.

The Project is independent and unbiased. 

Contrary to the belief of certain contractors and others the Project and its web site is not a commentary on the construction of the railway. It does not express an opinion but is merely a totally independent factual record.

This web site is about the unique photographic project and is not a progress report on the construction work. There are far too many photographs to publish all of them so the web site is selectively added to at each update.

 

As time passed and a final route was decided upon interest in the Project by local people, farmers and landowners had become such that it was decided to extend it to cover the construction of the entire railway, from London to Cheriton.

Work will continue until construction is complete and trains are running over the entire length of the line. Duration of the Project is expected to be 18 years, from 1989 to 2007.
