Classic British crime fiction

Introduction

The information on this website is intended as a non-scholarly background to some classic British crime fiction, mainly from the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. Initially it will concentrate on the work of Nicholas Blake, the pseudonym of C. Day Lewis, and Edmund Crispin, the pseudonym of Robert Bruce Montgomery, but will include information on the work of others, including Michael Innes and John Dickson Carr.

An open book

Individual novels will be discussed in some detail, including an outline of the plot (without giving too much away!), a description of some of the interesting characters, and background notes placing the work within a biographical, and often a geographical, context.
